What Matters-Support our Troops

I hop on to egriz every once and awhile and read dozens of posts of grown men agonizing over the on field success of 18-22 year old boys. We talk about expectaions. We talk about money donated to the program. We talk about people's jogs. We complain and argue. Our fascination with these kids' athletic exploits is consistently put in the spot light.

All the while there are 18-22 year old boys and girls over seas putting their lives on the line every day. Their efforts and sacrifices often go unnoticed and are under-appreciated. My uncle, younger brother, and two cousins have made that service. Some of which will have life long effects of their experiences of battle and loss of their brothers in arms.

I'm all for donating to the University and the football program. They are worthy causes and something I'm proud to be a part of. However, I encourage people to also spread their charity to the real heroes. To those who afford us the luxury of watching football and living in peace. Join me in giving back to those who have gave us so much.

Amen. Football is just a game. We talk about being tough and making sacrifices on the field when in reality, most if us don't know what tough is. I married into a family of Marines, Vietnam vets and current active duty ones. They redefined what tough and sacrifice really mean.Vets are the ones that give us all the right to belly ache about football. They are the tough guys. Vets are the most under appreciated group of people in our country. They are the ones that make our freedoms and liberties possible. Every day should be Veteran's Day.
