Hey '84 Griz....I'm a 1978 - 1982 "Zoo" guy.....I think the best way to "Bring Back the Zoo" would be to "Bring Back the Zoo"....me, you, Crackgina and others that remember what it was all about. Putting the students back to those seats won't bring back the atmosphere without a little coaching from some experienced professionals. Wouldn't it be fun to have a couple hundred near "50 somethings" joining the students for a couple coaching sesssions. We couldn't sit there without first signing some type of oath that we will stand yell and deliver creative barbs to the opponent. Wonder if ODay will let us try it tomorrow night.

One of my fondest memories of the Zoo was in 1979 Griz/cat game here in Missoula. I played walk on frosh ball for the Cubs and we played pregame to varsity game. Varsity game started at 8PM, Cubs at 6PM. We were going thru warmups about 5:45 when the doors were opened for seating. I'd say that 4,000 fans were in their seats by 6PM and the place was full with over 9,000 by our halftime. Watching a thousand + literally run to the Zoo and fill it in about 10 minutes was pretty amazing.

I was among those in that initial surge to fill the Zoo at the '79 Griz/Cat game...such great memories. I've been a lifelong slow-footed guy, but on those occasions, I showed my most astonishing quickness. Saturday home bball games were a tradition for me and my buddies. Started the day with a pancake and beer breakfast and pretty much drank until 4 or so, then headed over to Adams to mix with the throng...only downer was that once we got good seats, I inevitably had to pee (like they say, you don't buy beer, you only rent it) and it was always a hassle to get up and go and then wade back to my seat..

The best was when Domino's started delivering and you didn't have to lose your seat. We would call in our order two hours early, get in our seats, and then they would deliver. You had to share a little, but you didn't lose your seat to eat. haha

Or you could order one in the name of Weber coach Neil McCarthy and watch the delivery guy bring it in. That was classic.

That is damn funny..

I remember that. Classic! Remember the signs "Where's your Mommy" we used to show his kid when he played? I did one for Durham's kid and a bunch of Griz grandpas and grandmas told me to stop it. Times have changed and not for the better for Griz fandom.

The sickest humor ever was the sign those guys carried the floor around that referred to McCarthy's wife. It makes me cringe to this day.

We should find Partygirl some audio of Fat Dad back in the day. When you think about it there has to be some archived audio of that guy; it's just a question of where to start looking.

Maybe someone has the video from the Idaho game in January 1991 that made SportCenter. That was the game when the Iraq anti-war protesters ran out and laid on the floor right before tipoff and the Zoo pelted them with the potato's that they had brought for the Vandals. When the cops dragged the protesters off the floor the whole place started chanting "USA, USA, USA"
In retrospect, with thousands of dead Americans, hundreds of thousands of Iraq citizens dead, billions of dollars Missing, and nothing really gained but a limited share of oil, perhaps those protestors should have been supported by all who really know what patriotism truly is....I remember watching that game in Chicago and hearing people praise UM...as i recall, the Griz lost that game...

Um, your recollection is wrong, Griz won and you are mixing up your wars.

Or how about when the whole Zoo actied like they were reading the Kiaman and not saying a work when the opposing team is introduced and then ripping the papers up and tossing them into the air when Fat Dad started the Griz introductions.

Also telling all the old people in the next level to bite me when they kept yelling at us to sit down during the game.

It was also around that time that UM had the longest home winning streak in the country..and ranked on the top 5 defensively, year after year....with a much smaller enrollment...today's team is even better, or at a minimum, equal...

That was one of the most creative things I've ever seen at a game. The look of sheer bewilderment on Mccarthy's face is something I'll never forget!

"Sit, Neil, sit!! Sit, Neil, sit!!". Then we'd go crazy when he did!

So you are voting Ron Paul to avoid all foreign engagements? Because both parties have taken us to war. (see FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton are not Republicans)

How's about old "Give Um Hell Harry!" Oh, that was a police action! Bush 2 didn't take us to war.......his evil Godfather did.

Ya, all those little tough heroes in the stands.......tough talk, let somebody else's kid go into combat.
Today most of them are still watching FOX, getting all teared up and being patriots of the moment. That chanting USA bullshit sums them up as far as their commitment goes......don't forget the American Flag lapel pins!

I love the USA chant. (And one of my sons had two deployments in Iraq, and got a 4-inch hold in him on his first trip.) I would take the USA chant group over the war protester group any day. My son said that they could feel the stepped up pressure of the bad guys in Iraq, when a vote, like the non-binding resolution, was coming up in the US Congress. The bad guys would step up violence in general and attacks on US soldiers, in hopes that the news reports in the US would influence the votes of the war opposition and fence-sitters in the US. This was in the '06/'07 time period, and prior to the Surge.

If liberals would allow more pursuit of US oil and energy reserves, then there wouldn't be as much of a need to defend our interests in the Mideast. Also, significantly increased US production, including things like the Keystone pipeline, would cause US oil demands for foreign oil to decrease significantly and might cause Mideast revenues to decrease significantly (which would weaken those countries).
