Putting the students back to those seats won't bring back the atmosphere without a little coaching from some experienced professionals. Wouldn't it be fun to have a couple hundred near "50 somethings" joining the students for a couple coaching sesssions. We couldn't sit there without first signing some type of oath that we will stand yell and deliver creative barbs to the opponent. Wonder if ODay will let us try it tomorrow night.
One of my fondest memories of the Zoo was in 1979 Griz/cat game here in Missoula. I played walk on frosh ball for the Cubs and we played pregame to varsity game. Varsity game started at 8PM, Cubs at 6PM. We were going thru warmups about 5:45 when the doors were opened for seating. I'd say that 4,000 fans were in their seats by 6PM and the place was full with over 9,000 by our halftime. Watching a thousand + literally run to the Zoo and fill it in about 10 minutes was pretty amazing.
I was among those in that initial surge to fill the Zoo at the '79 Griz/Cat game...such great memories. I've been a lifelong slow-footed guy, but on those occasions, I showed my most astonishing quickness. Saturday home bball games were a tradition for me and my buddies. Started the day with a pancake and beer breakfast and pretty much drank until 4 or so, then headed over to Adams to mix with the throng...only downer was that once we got good seats, I inevitably had to pee (like they say, you don't buy beer, you only rent it) and it was always a hassle to get up and go and then wade back to my seat..
