Cost of something like $1.7 million. Construction would not begin until at least next spring. The funding is supposedly committed, and all or a bunch would be from donors. I still wonder if the all of the commitments will be honored on this, but the university believes the funding is in place.
The weight room and locker rooms would come after that. Yet another plan for the weight room is now being considered. I have doubts that the weight room will be done in the near future. I have felt that the academic center is standing in the way of the weight room, including donations for it, for some time, but the academic center is apparently important to Engstrom.
The academic center isn't important for recruiting; a new weight room is.

There is more to this university than athletics.

Then they shouldn't use football generated income on other things until football needs are met. We are the only school that "rents" the stadium to its team that I know of. Crazy.

You can bet that the redundant HC and AD salaries are covered within the AD in spite of it being the president's action. It would be interesting to benchmark how many universities direct 100% of their game concessions to the food service and how many direct 100% of their revenue from logo and gear sales to the bookstore. My guess is not many.griz4life said:GrizPony said:Bear Pause said:PlayerRep said:My understanding is that the academic center is teed up, but awaiting various approvals in the university system/state. I was surprised to see that although Athletics rents the facilities, the maintenance costs also fall on the department, which is trimming $150K from its maintenance budget to help out with a $5.7 million shortfall tied to a 700 student enrollment decline.
