What defense will we run this season?

Look at the coordinators. Look at their history and the teams they coached at. Look at the transfers. It won’t be a 3-3-5 thankfully.
3-3-5 might be in the CFP this season. The Rocky Long 3-3-5 base not the situational 3-3-5 that Alabama and Georgia have already played in the CFP.

I'm thinking something that more fits our players. I'm a Griz fan, but I feel we've been married to certain defense for a while. That defense relied upon a certain type of push uo the middle; even though we didn't have the personal for that defense. I never understood why. I'm feeling better about this year for that reason. We shall see but I feel good about our defense this year.
Bobby Hauck was all about forcing a square peg into a round hole.

Ya except after Gubner graduated we never had another dominant NT, which I would argue is maybe the most important position of the 3-3-5.
If we couldn’t find 1 dominant interior Dlineman how were we going to find 2 for an even front? The 3-3-5 under Hauck also evolved over the years. Look at the tape from last year compared to 2023. 2023 featured more of a straight stack. The defense evolved to try to account for Gubner leaving instead of staying the exact same.

We don't need 2 dominant DT"s with a 4 man front. IMO we just need serviceable to good DT's. When there's 2 guys in the middle as opposed to 1 then there's more help to clog up the run lanes in the middle. Plus I'm pretty high on our DE's that I think they will do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Who says a dominant nose is the most important position? Just asking for your backup. Not disputing you.
The most dominant year of the 3-3-5 was in 23 during Gubner's senior year. Once he left neither Pat Hayden nor Jareb Ramos could replace his production and the D took a noticeable step back.

DB is also really important in the 3-3-5. AZ was pretty good last year running the 3-3-5 with an average NT but they had 4 DB get drafted to the NFL off that team.
