what can we do for JJ?

Maybe instead of beating our heads against the wall with an on-line petition to deny Pat Williams a post on the Board of Regents, we could have an on-line petition in support of JJ's appeal to be reinstated to the football team.

Or we could do both. :thumb:

Yes we could do both, but at this point, I kind of like the idea of putting my energies towards something positive, like getting JJ back in a Griz uniform with #10 on it. Enough with the negative energy already!

PW's removal would be addition by subtraction...that's POSITIVE energy! :D :D

Thanks to whoever took the time to do this. Start spreading this video on social media. I hope the Johnson's can get this too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=P-AW_y5wEeQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

you know they will..... :thumb:

I agree if anything is done to offset JJ's legal fees, one would have to be very careful. Some have suggested contribution to UM, but this does not help the Johnson family. Others have suggested shirts with a #10. I like this. What would happen if the Johnson family established a company to market and sell the shirts? Would this approach violate any NCAA rules?

like any other company they would have to negotiate the rights to Griz logo in order to produce and sell the #10 jersey. I think the legal beagles here can probably address how this is done. I think its an awesome idea, I would buy a dozen #10 jersey's from the Johnson Family Store for my buddies :thumb:

It wouldn't need to have a Griz logo. If it was maroon, said "Montana" with the number 10 that would be enough for most people. My wife is in the athletic apparel business and says that in volume you could produce such a shirt for under 10 bucks each.

Go for it,

Have you people learned nothing?

Unfortunately, there's probably nothing we can do to benefit JJ and his family financially that wouldn't cause them more problems--and we certainly don't want that.

I do like the Idea of a #10 jersey or T-shirt though. That would make a pretty strong statement if thousands of people were wearing them when JJ takes the field again. I hope someone who would know how to make it happen gets on that.

There must be something else that fans could do collectively to show him moral support, if not financial--maybe at the spring scrimmage; definitely at the first game of the fall. Just something that says to him, "hey, we're totally behind ya!" Too bad the scrimmage isn't in Missoula this year like it was in 2012. I think it would be packed! There's a renewed energy and enthusiasm in Griz Nation. And it's pretty exciting!

People --

Please refer to this prior thread on this topic: http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61312

The long and the short of it is this:

No matter how much we'd like to help the Johnsons after their ordeal, any gift of any item of any value to any of the Johnsons by a fan of the Griz is almost certainly an NCAA violation and will get the University and the Griz football team in hot water.

Don't do it.

Support Jordan now by coming to the stadium and lifting him up with your cheers before, during, and after he leads the Griz back into and through the playoffs.

The best redemption for the Johnsons would be to watch their son succeed, in all aspects of his life.

yeah, I don't think the color maroon with the word MONTANA would cause a problem. Plus, adding the #10 would be perfect. I say go for it!

MONTANA #10

I think the same NCAA rules that kept this wrestler from making music videos would keep the Johnson's from selling tshirts to pay for legal representation that was Jordan's.

How about suitcases full of small, unmarked bills left on their doorstep?
Ask Miami how well that works.

Yeah and ask USC, Reggie Bush, etc. etc. etc. Some of you just don't get it. You can't give him or his parents any help. Anything could/would be construed as a "gift." And if either the U of M or the NCAA caught wind of it would be death to the footbal program.

NCAA: "Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, how were you able to payoff all those legal fees?"

Johnson's: "We just used this large suitcase of cash that we found."

NCAA: " "

As unfortunate as this situation is, Jordan and his family are going to be under the "watchful" eye of U of M compliance and the NCAA.

IF they did the T-shirt thing, how is it a gift? You paid money and received value in return. Heck the IRS even says you can't write off a donation if you received something of value....it's not a donation. How can the NCAA legislate against entrepreneurship?

I'm not saying something like that that would be illegal. But just giving them straight out cash would be a bad thing for them and the school.
