What am I missing with Ah Yat?

Ah Yat is a way better passer than Mellott. Mellott has improved this year, but rarely throws a nice ball. He throws shorter and completes some longer passes with surprise. His throws are very inconsistent. Some lol good and some are awful. He has a nice percentage this season, and I explained why above. You probably thought he threw well against the grizzlies last year in first half.

Maybe he lacks confidence in their ability to catch?

Now Hike will post some derogatory comment trying to bully or redirect the conversation because someone posted a lazy dumb post to match his lazy dumb post.
Why do we score when Fife is on the field? You sound dumb again.

Thanks. I definitely understand that young brains aren't fully developed. I think he really has a very long way to go. To use your driving analogy, if someone is still trying to navigate a roundabout and merging onto a crowded freeway after two years of driving school, IDK if it's very common for that person to be racetrack ready in nine-ish months.

I've mentioned this before, but do you think the hopes would be as high if his name was Dan Smith from Winnemucca, NV? I question whether they would be. 🤷‍♂️
As a close relative of the Winnemucca Smith’s, I demand an apology!

You're right. My apologies. Give my best to Frank and Esther and tell Esther to keep that award-winning macaroni salad away from me next time I'm in town. Best in Humboldt County. I think a gained four pounds last time.

I would disagree a smidge with you saying he has a very long way to go. There are glimpses of very good there. He does make some questionable decisions and bad throws. He has also had some terrible WR drops so hard to get a full take on him. I think he will be good to very good based on what I see if some of his habits can be broken, as I see a few footwork issues at times as well as his staring down receiver 1. Will it be next year? Maybe. I hope Fife stays, but I'm doubting it. That said, KAY and Huot could be a decent 1-2 if that's what happens. I would prefer, though, 1 more year of development behind Fife.

All valid points. The only point I'll raise is there are always glimpses of very good in every QB who gets a DI scholarship and gets playing time. That's how they got there in the first place. It will be Huot's fourth year in the program next year, and I can't remember him taking a collegiate snap. I'm not trying to disparage these specific players; I'm just trying to say (big picture) maybe it's possible that we see ceilings earlier than we want sometimes.

Which leads to another controversial subject, which is transfers with experience in FBS programs. Many seem to want us to roll out a HS grad or RS frosh and "develop" him in DI games. Others think the opposite; get a transfer who knows what DI defenders look like rather than sacrificing a season(s). I think this season has kind of shown what can happen when you try to force the former. That's why I think the farm system approach could work. Everybody's already read my thoughts on that, so I'll again spare the board.

My bad! I thought you were talking about Fred and Edna Smith’s boy, Dan. Frank and Esther Smith’s son couldn’t crack the starting lineup on a Division III team.

Looks like Washington started 4 games before injuring his shoulder and being replaced by Berquist. I am just going off of the news articles I looked up, and the Stat sheets for each game. Washington was then Kicked off the team the next spring.

From ESPN Article....
Jason Washington, a Bowling Green
transfer who started four games as quarterback at the University of
Montana before injuring his shoulder, has been kicked off the team.
Thx. I will ask someone who knows the scoop. I had some of the scoop at the time and thought the coaches went with Bergquist. And why would Washington leave if he just hurt his shoulder? I know both fairly well and like both, by the way. I saw Cole last week. In town working on his Missoulian real estate project.

He didn't leave, he was kicked off the team. Glad you ran into people you know.

Bullshit! Frank's boy was a helluva QB. Set multiple Nevada records for passing yards in the second half after playing second chair trumpet for the marching band at halftime for the Lowry Buckaroos. Fred's boy thought he was too good to play for his hometown team and transferred to Elko. City slickers.
