What am I missing with Ah Yat?

He's not even close to being a better passed than TM.
Hey Cat troll reread what I said and come back to me again try not to edit your post this time. Tommy couldn’t throw to save his life his freshman year. He was disastrous at it. Even as a sophomore he was real bad.

A couple things:

1. More of a question for people who have coached. Is it common for QBs who have had two years in a program to "develop" an ability to make faster reads, instincts, and better decisions in, say, nine months? Or are they kind of "who they are going to be" by that point"?

2. If the answer to #1 is that it is common for a QB with two years in a program to transform (via 1980s movie training montage or otherwise) within nine months, and assuming he does so, are we kind of lucky that he didn't develop earlier given the portal and all?

I wouldn't call that Elite production from a QB against a nonconference opponent.
You initially asked for an example of him flashing talent and I gave one.
He’s a freshman and was able to do something no other QB has done here. Ever. It obviously was “elite” and very impressive.
People cannot handle the fact that the offense Pease wants to run (like last year) is better suited for KAY. There is little or no QB power with Fife. The only running The Griz could accomplish vs UCD was via KAY. I loved his determination to punch in that TD and wiling to go airborne and flip. Fucking awesome

Keali'i put up a goose egg in the first half Saturday and threw a pick.

Logan comes in and saves the day, putting 28 pts. on the board and throws for almost 200 yards in just one half and no ints.

For those of you wanting a head-to-head comparison, there it is !!!

Logan is clearly the better QB right now, and I think that extends into next year as well. The University of Minnesota is currently 6-4 in The Big 10 with pretty impressive wins over UCLA, USC, and nationally ranked Illinois. The Gophers had offered Logan a full-ride to Minneapolis this year before he changed his mind and traveled to Missoula instead--this decent Big 10 school saw something in Logan that they really liked. So when Bobby and Pease saw something special in Logan, they were not alone !!!

Logan is the better, complete QB right now--if he doesn't play the second half last Saturday, we are 7-4 right now going into The Brawl and come the Saturday after Thanksgiving, WA-GRIZ is probably empty and we're watching someone else in the playoffs !!!

This is a coaching staff who is notorious - for 22+ years now - to NEVER want to put the ball in a freshman / RS freshman's hands unless they see them as a freak of nature with talent. Furthermore they've always felt this way about the QB. Only twice, when forced only by injury, did they trust an RS Frosh to be QB. Justin Hartman for one game against Idaho, and Cole Bergquist in 2005 when Jason Washington got hurt. That was is. Usually, when even faced with the probability of having an RS Soph QB, they'd make sure to bring in a transfer to compete and (usually) win the job. That has been their MO forever.

Until last year & this year. Then suddenly they give Ah Yat some games and some meaningful reps. They proceed forward to give him the chance to actually win the job and start the season with him in at QB1. Even after Fife played lights out for a few games, they went back to the rotation in hopes have Ah Yat rise up and take the job.

That tells me that either this staff, who is generally a little stubborn in their ways, had suddenly decided to adapt to the way they do things with young QBs, or they see something in Ah Yat that they've never seen in other young QBs.

Ah Yat is a very good athlete too, he can be a very well rounded QB if he can improve on vision / reads and probably work on his outward leadership of others as well.

We've seen some great throws from him and some good running too.

I think he's the future, Fife is the right now.
Or, you could say bad judgment and be close to the truth.

I wont even waste my time posting to people like you. You do have all the talking points down which proves you cant see talent but you can mimic posters "stares down receivers" comments.

That tells me all I need to know about someone that hasn't played the game.

Enjoy the week
Well Brent Pease and Marty Mornhinweg said the same thing. What does that tell you about them?

Any fan base is going to get excited about a legacy with lots of raw ability and they're going to regard his progress with a lot of favorable bias.

If there was a gifted QB in Bozeman with the last name Lulay, the same thing would happen.

I think Keali'i Ah Yat COULD be the future--he is very athletic and has a great set of wheels but you're right on stating that he's too puny and needs to add 10-20 lbs. of good weight. And I also agree that his throwing mechanics are a mess.

Logan should have been our starter the entire season and if he were, we would be 9-2 or 10-1 right now-- we beat ND or Davis or both.

If Keali'i is our QB of the future, he'll have to earn it as young guns, like Luke Flowers, are coming up behind him, and after Logan graduates from UM next year, I am sure Coach Pease and Hauck will go looking in the portal for another QB transfer, which Bobby has done every year in the sequel !!!
Bobby bringing in talented QB transfers are over
