Weyer Out for Season

Havent seen this posted yet; just saw on Twitter via AJ that Weyer is out for the season due to his injury. Huge bummer for the OL, feel bad for him based on how hard he worked to get healthy for this season.

Big props to Ben Weyer, it sucks when the heart and head are there but the body just won't go along with it. He is a brave warrior and I hope he stays in the frame to help the o-line soldier on.

Well, crap.

Ben, first and foremost, take care of yourself. There's a long, long life ahead after football. That said, if you can make it back, I can't wait to stand and applaud you.

You would have to think he would be granted a medical hardship if he applied for it. Getting a sixth year of school paid for isn't such a bad silver lining.

This sucks for him. I wish him the best, and hope he kicks ass in the classroom. Thanks for your blood, sweat, and tears.

It really does suck. Part of me hopes that he gets a 6th year and comes back full strength. Part of me hopes that he walks away, so that he can walk healthily later in life. Artificial knees aren't quite foolproof yet. Take care of yourself Ben! Wishing you the very best.

They are way better than they used to be, thank goodness ... but you're right.

I'm not sure fans, in general, appreciate what college athletes (potentially) give up in terms of their physical legacy. And that's aside from the new concern about concussions and repeated hard blows to the head. But at my (somewhat-advanced) age, I have way too many relatives, in-laws and friends who suffered debilitating physical problems after the end of their college athletic careers -- even when those injuries did not end those careers. And those problems, virtually without exception, have gotten worse with age. Blown out knee ... limp getting worse. Neck injury ... cannot turn head to the right. And so on. (Many other sports than football.) Don't get my wrong. Also without exception, they cherish memories of their time in college athletics ... but it came at a price. Those of us who just watch and enjoy (or choose to bitch) would do well to remember that price.

Sad news indeed! Please know Ben, that whatever life holds for you and whatever you choose to do going forward, GrizNation will always be behind you!

Brutal way to end a career. Wish him the best from here on out.

Don't think his career is over, could get a 6th year with a medical hardship... if he hasn't already (from last year).
