It is a known fact that Tinkle was not happy at Montana, he felt like he had done a lot with the program and was being treated as a second class citizen, and had little to no support from the admin. He said earlier this year that "his boy would be playing with his Dad, and it wouldn't be at Montana.

Where & when did he say that?

Ogden, March BSC tourney week

Like always, you're completely full of shit.

Wayne and his family loved Montana. Believe me, if Montana could pay $800,000 a year, he'd have been the head coach there for 30 years. But, we can't. And it's not the administration's fault as others have pointed out.

As for fans, yes we're sorry to see him leave. He was the conference's best coach, head and shoulders better than anyone else. Are we pissed? Not in the least. Quite the contrary: we're extremely happy for Wayne and Lisa. They'll always be GRIZ.

Accurate points Evertt. I think UM and Wayne were a good fit, and now he is pursuing bigger challenges. Like you, I am happy for Wayne and family. I wish them well. I do not fully understand the people who criticize coaches who leave UM and are stepping up to challenges. Wayne gave UM his best effort for eight years and the Griz players benefitted from his leadership.

Looking at his incoming class of '12. He'll be sanding & taping another 2 yrs.

His A$$ will be canned well before he can pop the lid to that can.

He got the number 1 player in Utah this year in Loveridge, .... very good young players to start his base from plus Washburn, who showed great improvement as the season wore on will be around for his Senior season.

They will be fine, and beating Weber in less than 3 years.

Loveridge is a tweener, & will really struggle in the Pac. I've seen him play, & Utah was his "highest" conference offer for a good reason. They got bounced early in the state tourney, & he played lousy.
Loveridge is not there answer, he plays the 4, but in a 3 body. He's been able to pull it off in high school, but won't in DI, let alone Pac12. Weber's 2 young Centers made Washburn look like a high school player. Larry will get canned well before he can right the laughing stalk which is Utah basketball.

Pretty sad when the Weber fans have more insight to your coach than Griz fans.

Dude, you don't even have one ounce of cred on your OWN board. I can promise you that absolutely NO ONE here believes a word you type.

Sorry your boys could never beat Tinks in a big game. I know that's gotta suck and really stick in your craw. Wayne simply outcoached Rahe every step of the way.

Is dementia setting in Everett? Have you read anything on this thread? If you don't think Tinkle didn't want out of Montana because he felt like he was treated 2nd fiddle to the football program you're kidding yourselves. Tinkle was VERY active in trying to leave because he didn't feel like he was getting ANY respect. Wayne Tinkle said 1 day before the conference tourney started, "my boy will be playing for dad And it won't be at Montana." Don't miss this point, Weber has done anything & everything to retain Randy Rahe, & UM had just the opposite approach with Tinks. It's not good for the conference that he's gone. Try and stay on point Everett.

To WSUnPurple: Setting aside your "main point" for awhile (your contention that UM abuses its basketball programs and coaches), could you provide a little more info for the readers here on eGriz?

You've repeated a statement allegedly made by Wayne Tinkle the day prior to the start of the 2014 Big Sky Conference tourney. You place it quotes, but it seems to me NOT to have come from any media source because of grammatical and syntactical errors. So, could you provide some documentation?

• Was this statement spoken in a pre-tourney press conference? Was it in response to a reporter's question? Did you, personally, hear this statement? Where was the statement spoken?

• And then: In which publication (or media presentations) did this appear? Was the statement "picked up" by other media outlets? Was Mr. Tinkle later asked to clarify his statement?

As soon as you provide answers to the questions above, then eGrizzers can further comment on your central allegation (and your statement that WSU hoops followers have more insight into Grizzly Basketball than Griz followers).

He's so full of shit his purple is now brown.

As I said, no one on his own board ever believes a word he says.

Here he probably thinks he's trolling, but he's too stupid to realize that NO ONE is buying.

WSUnpurple really misconstrued the quote (I wish I could find it) and is slightly off. A few months back the subject of Tres's recruitment came up. I do not remember the exact word so am not quoting anything. Wayne responded to his girls having gone out of state, but that was different being he is not a women's college coach. It is harder for him as a father and coach to have the same mindset with his son. He wants to coach Tres in college. It would be hard for him to have anyone else coaching his son in college. He implied the competition for Tres is tough and offers coming from all over the country, but he would love to coach Tres.

Wayne did not say anything even hinting Tres would not be at Montana. He implied the competition was stiff, and he would compete as hard for Tres to play for him as he could. The article was posted on one of the EGRIZ threads. Maybe someone can find it. :thumb:

I found the link about Tres's recruitment and Wayne's comment. It is nothing like WSuP is indicating. I read every article I can find about the Tinkle's and Montana hoops. I doubt there is an article with anything even close to what WSUP is posting. Feel free to prove me wrong. I am confident in this one. http://m.billingsgazette.com/sports/college/blogs/catgrizinsider/things-we-learned-from-the-grizzlies-swing-through-billings/article_254d121e-d174-11e3-993b-0019bb2963f4.html?mobile_touch=true" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2. A Tres-Tinkle-to-Montana scenario isn’t as far-fetched as some might think.

Wayne Tinkle’s son, Hellgate star Tres Tinkle, is about to hit the summer AAU circuit and is sure to draw more attention from college coaches and scouts as he gets ready for his senior year in 2014-15. The 6-foot-6 Tinkle is this state’s most prized boys basketball recruit since Great Falls CMR’s Josh Huestis in 2010.

Tinkle will probably have the chance to go big in Division I. As my colleague Slim Kimmel tells me, 247sports.com recently elevated Tinkle to 4-star status, joining ESPN as the lone recruiting sites to put him in 4-star territory. But what are the prospects of him staying home to play for his father at Montana?

“He’s getting a lot of interest and his name is starting to spread," Wayne Tinkle said. "A lot of people assume he’s going to play for his dad, and that’s kept some people away, but then there are a lot of people that want to throw their name in the hat and fight for it. I told my wife that when it was our daughters (Joslyn and Elle) being recruited I could have a lot more open mind.

“But when it’s my son and thinking about another guy coaching him and taking him away from me, it’s a little different. We’re going to go through the process. He has said that he would love to play for me, but he also really wants to take a look at the other options he has. He’s keeping his head on his shoulders and staying grounded. He knows he’s got to get better and he’s really focused on doing that for the time being.”

Good luck to Tinkle. Wanted to coach against the highest level of competition but he will always have a place in his heart for the UM...to much history in the family. He said in the press conference he will have to recruit another type of athlete at OSU than he did at Montana. He knows the challenges but I think he is excited, not just for the paycheck, but for the challenge of being in the Pac-12 and the type of teams he will play every year. I took the comment as a dig but it was the truth, basketball does take a backseat in Missoula. Happens at a lot of schools. Maybe he thought, as a former player - with his wife a former player, he could elevate the excitement in Missoula to the early '90's. Did not happen but he did get basketball back on the right track.

My comments do not come from this article. I don't read publications in Montana. Not sure why you would assume they would.

Why don't all of you Griz "insiders" ask Wayne yourself. Wayne said he was not happy @ Montana, and was actively trying to get out. Nobody likes to be treated 2nd fiddle when they put so much work, and have so much success into something.

WSU,

I am not apt to disagree. I had always heard such rumors second and third hand that the admin was indifferent towards the basketball programs. Since I am not around Missoula much anymore, I didn't really know what to believe.

The recruiting budgets, the media outlay, all of those things seem to indicate that basketball was a second fiddle. I don't believe the department or community gave as much to the program as Wayne did. There are few that probably would dispute that.

I would be frustrated to, and while just about everyone would try to put on a great public face, it is frustrating to know that when push comes to shove the basketball program is a second class citizen at the University and in teh community.

Wayne is by all accords one of the best ambassadors the University could have ever had and one of the best human beings in the sport. Too bad that the community and school didn't embrace them the way the do the football program.

Just so I'm clear:

Your position is that Wayne Tinkle, one of the greatest players in Montana history, and a guy who spent years as an assistant at Montana during some of the best years the FB team ever had prior to spending 7 years a the head coach didn't know that Montana was a football school?

Sorry. He knew that before he took the gig. Was he frustrated by it at times? NO doubt. Did he want out of Montana? NO way. The only reason he left was for professional advancement.

And you calling me odd is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.
