Vs. NA

Some of you negative fans are pathetic. Either support the team or go away. Or, if you really are fans, learn the game. The Griz will, or won't, come on this season and make a go of it. They have terrific potential. Cheer for them. Support them. But don't diss them and make so many stupid comments. I wish I had opportunity to tell you what I think--or kick you in the ass.

for a guy that says he doesn't have time to tell us he thinks? Classic! Post of the year! :punch:

happy for the win but three straight games now--portland state, cats, jacks--where this team just hasn't come prepared to play. conference games, no less, so what's the excuse?

when you love a team you don't much care whether they win or lose as long as they're giving the effort, as our football team has for a generation now, or the ladies always do in all sports, or our basketball teams almost always did back in their heyday. but i echo l.a. griz who reported driving last year to santa barbara and this year to northridge only be be disappointed by the effort he saw--an experience duplicated for me when i went up to portland last month, or saw them play at sac state two years ago.

seems it's become a hallmark of tinkle-coached teams that they play for one half: first (fresno) or second (montana state and northern arizona), take your pick, but not both. that's a .500 team.

or that we're always talking about "potential," as last year when we thought qvale, johnson, taylor and mcgillis would form the basis of a potential conference champion. truth tell, only johnson has fulfilled that potential, a conference championship is nowhere in sight, and now we're talking about more "potential" in cherry, ward, digs and woods. but if these guys turn out to play with the same inconsistency as this year's crew, we're going to look back on the tinks years as the "mirage editions."

see what happens when you fall out of love?

I also hear you guys got quite a gift on that foul that sent Jack to the line with :06 left. Any thoughts from any of you that were at the game?

Looked like a pretty solid foul on Big Sky TV. Overall, I'd say the officiating in this game was much better than 90% of BSC games.

Actually, my friend who told me about the foul saw it on Big Sky TV. He has no interest in who won, and was just making an observation. If the same foul had been called against the Griz, would you have still thought it was solid? If you can answer that question "honestly", then there's the answer.

Where I sit I had a pretty good view of the foul. It definitely was a foul. The guy ran into McGillis when McGillis had the ball. Had the situation been reversed, I would've been thinking "WTF was our guy doing running into the guy who had the ball?!" and then hoping for some missed free throws.

THe NAU player ran in to Jack's back when he had the ball. The replay on TV showed he hit him pretty hard. Boneheaded play and absolutely a foul.

I will add alot later about my GRIZ basketball thoughts. Thanks to a pipe flooding my living room. I am staying in temporary lodging for up to 30 days. Unfortunately for me, some damn reason the IP site at the hotel I am staying at says the IP address is "blackballed" when I try posting from the hotel. Chris, what is up with that?

Until that is fixed, I can only read EGRIZ, and have very little time at work to post. When time permits though I will be catching up. I am reliefed about pulling out the NAU game, but I would not say "happy". Well all, will check back later, better get to work. GO GRIZ!!!!!!!!!!

Very good half time adjustments, excellent play by AJ, and never give up attitude by everyone else equalled a win that most thought was a loss at the beginning of the second half. Big tip of the stetson to Tinks, the staff and a team who just might be finding itself. :thumb:

don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, the grizzlies had a huge come from behind win today, but did so looking incredibly inept for 35 minutes. AJ was huge, and I applaud TInkle for findin him and bringing him to missoula but dude still can't coach. This game was a free for all until the last minutes when the grizzlies game back. I'm very happy with the win, however this does not make me feel any better about the rest of the season. We skated by this one on talent alone.

Would you f'ing give it a rest Dude. If Tinks cant coach, who can? You? Any ideas? Coach K's first 3 yrs at Duke were miserable, something like 47-68.. You think they were ready to fire him then? If so, I bet theyre glad they didnt.

I could not agree more, I am sick of hearing it from robo and csa, At least robo is not as disrespectful as csa. Tinkle could outcoach them sleeping!!!!!!!!! Myself, I know Tinkle has alot of room to improve, and hope he reaches his coaching potential. Yet, do I consider him a bad coach? Hell no. I think he is well worth having patience with, and in time GRIZNATION will reap the benefits. It could be very similar with how Reed impacted football forever here.

I think we will have another measurement of the coaching capabilities very soon. With the breakout games that Johnson has had of late, opposing teams will now be game planning him instead of concentrating on Hasquet or denying Stauds the open look. Not saying opponents can't do it all, but AJ's recent dominance will open up so many other scoring opportunities for the Griz and Tinkle must be prepared and able to exploit that starting with Sac State. Whether it's AJ drawing the double and kicking to the post or Staudacher being quick enough coming off screens we have to plan and execute.
IMHO, I think the key will be the bigs being able to just catch the darn ball and make bunnies and the shooters being able to get open.
But seriously ..I just like BBAll and don't really know sht. Go Griz.

I agree, problem, do we have a consistent inside scorer? At this point, NO! It is amazing after the CAT game I had hopes of Hasquet establishing himself inside. I should have known, it was too good to be true. Once again, he gave us very little post presence offensively. On a positive note, his rebounding was much better again.

I just cannot see AJ being able to do what he is doing every game. If he can, we just may have a potential NBA guard with him. McGillis is becoming consistent finally. However, Hasquet is a rollercoaster ride this year. Teams refuse to leave Stauds open no matter who is destroying them. This team needs Hasquet, McGillis, Stauds, Sharp, Selvig, Qvale, Taylor all to find offensive consistency.

Kudos to Tinkle for riding a hot hand when struggling as a team. I know Tinkle hates resorting any one player having to put up big scoring numbers to win. BTW, can anyone but Stauds consistently shoot the 3? I honestly expected much better 3 shooting from Taylor, McGillis, and Hasquet this year.

Yeah, I'd say that, when a team is shooting as poorly as the Griz, it's a positive thing when they can win games, especially close ones. AJ is carrying the team right now, but they'll need other guys to step up. I expect Stauds, Selvig, Hasquet, McGillis and others will get hot and will make this team very hard to defend. I hope it happens when they play PSU and WSU.

Selvig looked good to me last night ,he just needs minutes for his shot to drop and get used to the speed of the game. He is just to skinny to be the man inside. We do not have a post. I would take a nail gun and shoot Hasquet's feet to the floor inside the key. I

I'm normally one to give coaches a lot of leeway, but Tinkle has had me scratching my head. I especially don't understand his inability to get Hasquet playing inside. He seems not to get guys motivated when he should.

I don't know that its a big deal, but he doesn't seem to follow through on promises. After the UW game, he lauded Shawn Stockton, who had a solid game, and said he had earned more playing time. I was impressed by Stockton, and thought he provided some spark, as he was trying hard when others weren't. But I don't think he's played a minute since then. Anyone know what's up with that?

damnit..I was trying to watch the "National Championship",,"needed" Oakl & Stoops, altho I can't stand the man..but I had the bball game on the 'puter..and just couldn't leave it. Mick and Big SkyTV kept me glued to the damn Griz game...almost satisified and expecting the Griz effort from the first half to continue..good..get into FB game..after a few..start hearing that guy getting excited on the comeback..only 6..then 5..football game got forgotten and I start yelling with the announcers? I have had comments about the coaching-leadership-effort...but I 'll be damned that comeback was fun to hear and watch..what "championship?"..damnit lost that bet.. but thanks Mick,BSTV,and GRiz !
