happy for the win but three straight games now--portland state, cats, jacks--where this team just hasn't come prepared to play. conference games, no less, so what's the excuse?
when you love a team you don't much care whether they win or lose as long as they're giving the effort, as our football team has for a generation now, or the ladies always do in all sports, or our basketball teams almost always did back in their heyday. but i echo l.a. griz who reported driving last year to santa barbara and this year to northridge only be be disappointed by the effort he saw--an experience duplicated for me when i went up to portland last month, or saw them play at sac state two years ago.
seems it's become a hallmark of tinkle-coached teams that they play for one half: first (fresno) or second (montana state and northern arizona), take your pick, but not both. that's a .500 team.
or that we're always talking about "potential," as last year when we thought qvale, johnson, taylor and mcgillis would form the basis of a potential conference champion. truth tell, only johnson has fulfilled that potential, a conference championship is nowhere in sight, and now we're talking about more "potential" in cherry, ward, digs and woods. but if these guys turn out to play with the same inconsistency as this year's crew, we're going to look back on the tinks years as the "mirage editions."
see what happens when you fall out of love?
