Don't just take my word for it, listen to Helena High Head coach Scott Evans, praise Junior WR Cameron Gurnsey and Junior 3 Technique DL/Left Tackle Zach Tierney, before playing Butte:

The Nach On Sports Show | Scott Evans Helena High on Podbean

Listen from 8:10 to 10:17

https://www.podbean.com/ea/pb-jubwz-10d55ce

(After 3 games, Gurnsey leads the state in receptions and yards receiving.)

Looks like Tierney and other Butte players were at the game.

Good call, there were some Butte players there. I am friends with player parents -- close friend of Zach Tierney's Uncle (grew up with and played 🏈 with him at BHS). Went to school with many of them...

Cats got a few with those players mentioned, but (and it's a big but... And I cannot lie -- Sir Mix A Lot) I am way higher on JR Tierney and JR Gurnsey (who will both be AA 1st Team All State for the next two years) than I am the Cat signees.

Tierney is an OLD SCHOOL knock your d! ck in the ground BADASS.

Guernsey has good size, speed and hands -- runs all routes (and his dad was known as the cat killer!!

And Guernsey is #1 in the state right now in receptions and yardage... Not Dowler.

Kautzman goes 2/2 on field goals from 41 & 42 versus Helena last Fri night. Coach Grey calls him nearly automatic. 😃

Kautzman can obviously kick the shit out of the ball. I know the cats are on him hard. Doesn’t seem like the Griz are as much. Do we know why? Maybe because of Casper being the heir-apparent?

For sure; they got the one they wanted. Still remains to be seen whether Kautzman doesn't get an FBS offer he can't refuse. Neither the Griz nor Kautzman would want him to come in but a year behind Casper.

This makes sense. Thank Kem!

Having Crews and Huot as 2 and 4 seems a little bit biased, but Vim does usually call it straight.

I don’t care what they’re ranked. I’m THRILLED they’re Griz. And I wish Taco was a Griz too.

Kinda surprised Kautzman hasn’t been offered by the Cats, would seem like a win win.
Right now Rohrbach is leading the state in all but field goals as he has had only two shots, made one missed one.

Rohrbach out of Glacier is the real deal. He's a game changer. Excited he'll be a Griz.

Casagranda freshman out of Bozeman has been impressive and a kid of the future to watch. You don't see a lot of freshman make that big of an impact at AA.

Gurnsey out of Butte has been fun to follow and defiantly one to watch for next year.

Klumph out of Sentinel is impactful on both sides of the ball. Seems to step up and make big plays.

Simpson out of Senior seems very quiet? Doesn't he have some offers? UM?? Is he healthy?

All 3 have loads of potential.

And all Montana boys!!

Capser has been injured since the start of fall camp. He redshirted early because of injury, but continued to kick. When healthy he is deadly. Watched him kick 75 yard kickoffs and hit a 42 yard field goal middle that would have gone 60. Owns nearly every single state record. He will be fantastic when his turn comes.

Rorhback is phenomenal punter. He will be great backing Buschini up and will be even better taking over for him later. Very excited about this.

Kautzman is a surprise. Griz are loaded for bear at specialist now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Cats step up at the end of season. Making early offers to specialists is rare. Most of the time they are the last offered and it could be the case with Kautzman. Regardless he will end up somewhere good.

Rohrbach was kicking five yards past the end zone at the Sentinel game and certainly won the field position all night with his punts. At camp this summer he hit a 65 yard field goal. Griz will be good at special teams for a bit. I suspect Casey will get an offer with the cats.

You somehow think Kautzman is a "surprise"?

Kautzman has been the best FIELD GOAL Kicker (not on weenie extra points, or as a punter) in the whole state the past 3 seasons. Look it up!

Kautzman exploded on the AA scene as a Sophomore, earning 1st Team All-State, and was named KICKER of the Year.

And he has only improved since all that recognition, and is simply automatic on FIELD GOALS.

In fact last night he set a school record easily nailing a 51 yard Field GOAL.

"He can thank Coach Grey from some confusion,” Butte High coach Arie Grey said. “We jumped offsides and it went from a 46- to a 51-yard kick, and he just nailed it.”

Kautzman a surprise? Not in this universe.

Way to take what was said out of context. “Surprise” as he hasn’t been offered by the cats or griz yet, or another D1 program.

Kautzman is truly special and great. When he charts though he hasn’t been on the mark all the time. That isn’t a negative though. Others have been more accurate. For instance, when he charted in Billings last December he was well behind Capser for accuracy. I saw this during the special teams camp in Wa-Griz stadium this summer.

Also, as a high school coach for the last 11 years and take a particular interest in special teams, kicking deep matters only roughly 33% of the time. While 33% is accuracy and the rest is proper form and approach to the ball. Being able kick deep is not what most coaches want. Bobby Hauck likes his kickoff guys to drop it between the 2 yard line and 2 yards inside the end zone. Where and who he wants it kicked to is more important than deep kicks

High school kickoffs are from the 40. Kicking it 5 yards out of the end zone is 75 yards. Rorhback is in great company as Buschini, Capser and Gilman all do that now. If Rohrbach wants to compete he better be kicking it 5 yards outside the end zone anyway.

As I said, I was at the specialist camp this summer as I brought 2 young k/p’s over. I never saw Rohrbach kick a 65 yard field goal. No one was close to that. I have only seen Capser and Kautzman do it and it was off a stick. Capser on Twitter on August 12th of last year and Kautzman this last summer sometime. The only time I have ever seen it by snap and hold was in Daylis Stadium when Bozeman High’s, Travis Dorsch, kicked a 63 yarder for the state record and one of the 10 longest field goal kicks in US history.

Lastly, all of Kautzman’s accolades were in AA football. Capser had all of those in class A football. It’s clear you know the Kautzman’s, but try not to discredit others before you have the facts.

We work hard to manage expectations with our kickers and punters. We work closely with Schillinger and Green to know what years the Griz are bringing on a kicker and which ones they want a punter, or neither. We position our recruits around that and build their recruiting schedule around that. We do that with the Cats too.

As I said, I was at the specialist camp this summer as I brought 2 young k/p’s over. I never saw Rohrbach kick a 65 yard field goal. No one was close to that.
