Well, I wasn’t going to do a poll this week, but ... I changed my mind. There are some interesting matchups, and potential upsets after all, so here we go. Of course, a couple games in the poll have the potential of being blow-outs by the favorite, but that’s what makes it fun.

Some might figure -- given past performance -- that the Bryant-Maine game is a likely blow-out, and perhaps it is. However, Bryant did beat Stony Brook, which gave FBS UConn a scare. Somewhat similarly, Southeast Missouri State did stay within 6 points of FBS Kansas. Now, admittedly, neither UConn nor Kansas are good FBS team, but still ...

I know it does not seem terribly likely that Northern Iowa could beat Hawaii, in Hawaii. But Hawaii is so bad (1-13, last year and this), I thought it was worth including the possibility.

FWIW, the game between South Carolina State and Coastal Carolina is featured in Haley’s TSN column as a classic offense (Coastal) vs defense (SCS) matchup. However, Coastal has a long home win streak and essentially “owns” the MEAC ... so what’s the point?

As usual, team on the left is the under-dog. You can pick two upsets.

(Actually, the Warriors only lost by a point to FBS #25 Washington, so perhaps they have a chance.)

Hawaii actually played fairly well in both losses. Not sure UNI can go to the islands and win.

I hope Hawaii wins by 50!
I don't think they can. This is so bad a team that people in Honolulu are debating dropping football altogether. The Pac 12 would have a field day recruiting there if they did.

(DII) Colorado State Pueblo over Sam Houston State is an interesting possibility of an upset this weekend

This. Pueblo is #2 I think in D2. Sam Houston isn't quite the same as it was the last few years either I don't think. I'll keep track of this one.

Glad I allowed two choices by each voter. Looks like everyone is picking No. Iowa, and then "someone else" for upsets.

< Bump! >

Last chance to get your votes in before the games really start. With the Griz not playing until tonight, and the kitties not playing until this afternoon: What else is there to do? (Well, besides getting really zonked. :D )

Hmm tough. A lot of games that could go either way or I just don't know a lot about. I went with Lehigh and Bryant mostly just because I want the CAA to get some early losses :thumb:

The trip to Hawaii always seems to be too big of a distraction or too draining for most FCS teams. I've picked Hawaii to get upset too many times in the past and they've disappointed me each time.

Oh, and thanks for doing these each week IdaGriz01.

Early losses for the CAA -- as good a reason as any for choices.

I agree that the whole Hawaii trip thing always seems to be a big distraction. That was why I was surprised that so many people seem to be picking it as their "first" choice and then scattering their second votes around.

And ... your welcome. The poll adds a little interest, especially (not this week) when we start seeing more ranked teams facing off.

Upset Alert!

Illinois State just scored to go up 14-3 over Eastern with about 8 min left in the first half.

Bryant is losing to Maine, but not too badly, 10-6.

Rhode Island is already down 14-zip halfway through Q2.

Well, the three of you who picked Bryant to upset #23 Maine are looking pretty damn good right now. Who woulda thunk it?

Of the four games that turned out to be upsets (not counting FBS matchups), I at least included two among my choices ... with one more possibility just starting.

Ummm ... tied 7-7 with about 6 min left in Q1.
