With two games that match ranked teams against each other, we at least have the basis for a good weekend. It’s harder to figure which other games with one ranked team might have an upset in it. At least the McNeese and Northern Iowa games have opponents with winning records. Perhaps we’ll get to see if McNeese is “for real.”

The SF Austin at SELA seems like a mismatch -- and perhaps it is. Still, except for the game against TCU, SFA has played all their opponents tough. That’s pretty much the case for Southern Illinois. So we’ll see.

On paper, the Monmouth-Liberty game also looks like a mismatch, and it likely is. But then, the Gardner-Webb game looked a mismatch too … and look what happened.

The main intrigue in the Albany-Villanova game is whether or not 'Nova really is in “free fall” with their season basically over.

All in all, not a bad weekend coming up.

(Underdog on left, two choices allowed.)

Went with W&M and SIU. Main reason is both have looked good to me and not that opponents are overly weak. Haven't seen New Hampshire this year, tho.

Yeah, I went with W&M too ... they look like they could be on a bit of a role. My other pick was Albany over Villanova ... 'Nova has not yet adjusted well to the loss of Robertson, and I don't think they will get it together for a road game.

Picked Youngstown State over the Jackrabbits.......Bo P (does the man ever smile?) thought he got jobbed last Saturday and will exact revenge on Stig's bunnies. Also picked Moustache Pete's team (Dale Lennon SIU) to win at ISUb. ISUb isn't that good and doesn't deserve a top 25 ranking.

I see everyone, so far, thinks Liberty's loss to a bad team was just a fluke that won't happen again. :(

I tend to agree, but what happened last Saturday does add some interest. :)

"Accentuate the positive" ... lyrics by Johnny Mercer. :thumb:

I am positive (as anyone can be when it comes to the polls) that the Griz will move up a spot, and maybe two, in the next FCS STATS poll. Why? Because #16 and #17 are playing each other (gooo Vikings!), so the loser will drop by four or five spots ... and the Griz should move up one from that game. Meanwhile, #19 New Hampshire is on the road at William & Mary. I think W&M is on a role, so UNH could go down ... Griz move up.

I may be wrong ('cuz' who knows what the pollsters will do?), but "I like my thinking." (I know, crazy :silly: but it's fun to consider.)

Hmmm, over two times as many votes on the Big Sky upset guesses as here. Is that just because people think they know more about Big Sky teams ... or that they're not that interested in FCS football, in general? Beats me. After all, knowing something about teams is clearly not necessary to post here. :?

But the forum title includes "and the FCS," so I shall carry on. :D

western illinois took coastal carolina to the last minutes. they are getting better and play good defense. a team on the rise.

Hmmm ... What's up with Liberty on the road? Halftime at Monmouth and the Flames are down 7-0. They've out-gained Monmouth by a lot (172-111) and have a ridiculous advantage in TOP (19:20 to 10:40 min). They have had 2 turnovers (one fumble, one INT) ... so those must have come at really crucial times. Have not been able to find even some streaming on this one, so can only go by the stats.

BTW: W&M leads UNH in the 4th quarter 27-15.

Well, by my count (it's getting late), four of the possible upset guesses turned out to be actual upsets. (And, of course, the kittie's Big Sky loss to PSU adds another for that poll.)

All told, looks like seven ranked teams lost this weekend, four of those to unranked opponents. Should be another crazy mess when the next FCS poll comes out. (I can hardly wait!)
