True, they played without their best WR....we also played without a starting CB, our starting NT and a couple other knuckleheads who got into some trouble.

There is ONE position that will be key during this game. QB. We have ours back. They're starting a RS Freshman. We could get over 300 yards rushing and absolutely OWN the TOP. Combine that with their small(ish) offensive line, and I see lots of pressure on their young QB, hurried throws (ala ASU) and a walkover for UM. This is not last year's Griz team.

Thanks BW. Very nice write up. D Line needs to disrupt their QB's. Batted down balls and rushed throws are all we should need. Their receivers are BIG and do come back for off target balls - but this is not the same Griz D that played last year as far as experience and maturity. To top that off. - they practically had to stay on the damn field the entire game and we still only lost by a TD if memory serves me correctly. The Griz should dominate this game. Near as I can tell - the receivers and passing game are about the only major strengths the Offense has. Tough to get it done being very one dimensional (unless you are playing the Griz D from last year!). Sorry, but it is the truth. New year - Let's exorcise one of the demons. Go Griz!! Maybe that is the new mascot. University of North Dakota Demons. Too many beers. Time for bed.

Don't worry about TOP, mute stat. Score is what matters. What would you rather have three 3 minutes dives each scoring a TD, or three 6 minute drives, and one TD?

It is going to be good. I am excited to see the changes UM has and to watch JJ in person. Great QB

come on everyone else is comparing the DB's of last year vs this year, and the running backs. It is the only thing to compare, UM has had only one game vs a less than average team. You should probably look at the rosters, our OL is bigger than you OL and DL overall, except for Poehls on OL.

Again TOP is nothing, go ahead have it. I will take Manning with the 7:30 minutes less TOP against the ex Super Bowl champs, throwing 7 TD's and winning 49-27. How did Chip Kelly win as many games as he did in college, not TOP, but getting as many plays in the game as possible, he laughs at TOP.

You are correct you are better off flipping a coin to predict the winner. This game will be won on the field and not by us. Good luck to both sides and I hope there are know injuries.

True, last years game may not be totally relevant to this years team. However, I was impressed with UND after watching them play SDSU. They are not a team to be overlooked. This will be a very intersting game in terms of seeing how good the Griz really are based on our win over APP State who seem to be struggling. How good is SDSU? If we stumble then we will know SDSU is for real. On the other hand, if we win convincingly then we can feel pretty good about our position in the national polls.....at least for a week. The season is a marathon and a game of matchups.

Agree, maybe SDSU isn't as good. If anyone didn't watch the game, Zenner is better than last year. He carries that team on his shoulders. Crazy how good he is. There QB is very good, but didn't show it at UND.

UND has a tough go right now. SDSU, UM, bye, MSU, EWU. Scary. They could come out 0-4, but I expect 1-3.

All I am saying is that schematically, this is a night and day comparison to last year. Even if the Griz D was identical to last year, the offensive scheme should keep UND off the field much more than last year. Emphasis on should.

Yeah, I chuckled at that comment when I read it. In fact I DID look at the roster, just yesterday, and the first thing that stood out to me was how FEW guys they had over 300 lbs. But if you take Poehls out of the equation, the two lines are really about equal.

Yeah, and these measureables can be very misleading. Carroll College lists guys at 300lbs, but they don't quite look the same. Take a look at T.Poole on the field. There are not too many 290lbs kids at this level that look like that.

You are correct at least equal. You have by 9 pounds a guy on average with our last weeks starters, and most of that is in the one big boy. hell theses guys fluctuate 15 pounds a day, in fact i fluctuated 5 pounds a day as a 98 pound wrestler. We are Not small by any means. So need need to chuckle. In the grand scheme of things 10-20 pounds is nothing to big guys like that.

I think the more important thing in your DL. Same as last year, but a year older?

I understand we are all homers, but I think everyone needs to realize this is not any easy game either way. We know we can play from behind, a three touchdown deficit, can the Griz?

BTW, I cheer for the Griz all but two times a year, and would love them to get in the playoffs and defeat the Bison at home.

No smack intended at all, but report back on the size of the offensive/defensive fronts after you see them in person. If I had a nickel for every opposing fan that said they were "as big" as the Griz after reading some roster stats, I could go home today.

Yeah outside of the head coach and a few assistants UND had quite a bit of turnover this offseason I beleive.

Remembering last year, the worst thing for the DBs was that they would wait for the ball to get to the receiver before trying to arm tackle. There were a lot of opportunities for them to go for the interception and they never took it. Not sure if that was due to coaching or a tactical decision to avoid a PI call. And that was with a better QB than they have now as I understand it.

Turn the DBs loose to go after the interceptions. Yes, we might get burned, but their receivers don't seem to drop many either, so you are faced with being burned or handing the ball to the offense 15 yards (at least) downfield.

There is no question that your OL is bigger than ours. We have a few big boys but I'm still waiting for our OL to get back to being as big as it was in our D2 days. We have a true SO in Brandon Anderson who is 6'6 313 lbs, he's been compared to Chris Kuper who, before his dislocated ankle, was one of the best OG in the NFL. We also have two future OT that are redshirting this year that will be studs. Hopefully we'll get back to being dominant in the trenches once again.
