University of North Dakota Scouting Report

Ground and pound. UND sees a good passing team every week all week long. Their D know how to play in the passing game. A few screens could work to our advantage. But keep the ball on the ground and control the TOP. Run the score up.
Seems that offense has been losing some credit with the W 2 weeks ago. I thought it was a pretty decent considering it was the first game. They coulda punched another TD in at the very end. The Griz's run game and O line is stellar in my book. I don't think this will be an easy win or a blow out, but a win none the less.

Thanks Brint for putting this together each week. I think we'll see methodic ball control football from the Grizzlies this weekend. Canada, Van and Counts will run for 275+ and the Oline will be the hero's at the end of the game.

ND will get their yards, but hopefully it will be too little too late and Griz will wear them down in the fourth. The Griz kept it close last year, but are a better team this year. ND is filling some holes. I predict a Griz win.

Great post, Brint. Oddly, I think #3 is the key to the game. Most people would say you gotta stop the pass against UND. But We all know UND will get yards via the pass. They're simply too good not to. But we've GOT to stop the run with our front 7. We cannot afford to have safeties help out in run support. If we have to have them creep down, we're in big trouble.

No excuses for us in this game to not bring home a W. We were embarrassed by UND last year on pass defense. Gregorak has had a year to think about what we did wrong and correct it. We are coming off a bye week to get healthy and put together a solid game plan. We have our A team QB this year. We are solid on both sides of the ball especially at the line of scrimmage.
If We play to our strengths this year, we win going away. First road test of the year and a good indication of how "united" we are.
Griz 35. UND 17
Go Griz!

Brint's scouting reports are always money!

Bottom line, I've been deathly afraid of this game for an entire year. I think I'm banned from the Helena Applebees because that's where I watched the fourth quarter of that game last season. It wasn't pretty.

I know everyone wants to put it all on Ty to get it done, but there is such a thing as matchup problems in football. Sometimes, players are just flat out faster and better than the guys trying to stop them, and while I think the Chief, Dennard and Nate Harris are good players this is one of those times. UND's receivers are that good! And anyone who doesn't think so is kidding themselves. My hope, for the Griz defense is, is that neither young QB ever gets comfortable and the Griz front forces them to have games like RS-freshman have once in a while. But the bottom line, the UND receivers are going to get open. PERIOD.

I'm much more scared of them than I am of NAU's offense. IMHO, the GRiz HAVE to win either this one or in Flagstaff to stay in the title race. They can't drop both, and if they fall at UND, that puts even more pressure going into Flagstaff.

5. Don’t get comfy. SDSU almost fell victim to this last week. If it’s the mid/late 3rd quarter or into the 4th and we’re up by 2-4 scores, don’t get conservative.
We've seen SDSU do that before, haven't we....

I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Lebsock and Van Ackeren in the rotation this game.
Also UND does not appear to have much of a running game. I wonder if TG would be tempted to us a NY Giant like rotation with 3 or 4 DE's in at a time for a better pass rush. I really don't see our DT's making as a huge impact in this game.

I doubt the GRIZ would experiment that much, but sure would love to see a few looks like that in passing downs. I think we have the personnel and depth to pull it off well.

Also, why can't we get more big athletic WR's? Just to the west of Missoula, EWU is big WR factory. Now to the east of us, North Dakota appears to be patterning EWU. Then again, we get better players at the other positions.

Ah yes, our rivals the Bunnies love to dash down there bunny hole a tad early when they get the carrot! Punch thier qb in the mouth, game over like King hippo in Tyson's knockout...hit him hard in belly, then punch him in the mouth game over. Griz should roll.

Ground and pound, ground and pound. The best way to beat their passing attack is to keep it on the sidelines. If we can get a decent lead early on, we can put a ton of pressure on their young QBs and force them into mistakes/turnovers.

this. exactly this.

They hung the passing yardage record on us last year, let's get the rushing yardage record on them this year.

Too early for a MUST WIN IMO, but if the Griz lose in Grand Forks, then NAU becomes a MUST-WIN.

Well, remember this isn't a conference game. While it would hurt to lose it, it wouldn't have any impact on the BSC title race.

Great job - thanks for that! Seems like it will all hang on the secondary, and that still makes me very nervous. What do folks think, was the bye a good thing or bad?

Thanks BW. Very nice write up. D Line needs to disrupt their QB's. Batted down balls and rushed throws are all we should need. Their receivers are BIG and do come back for off target balls - but this is not the same Griz D that played last year as far as experience and maturity. To top that off. - they practically had to stay on the damn field the entire game and we still only lost by a TD if memory serves me correctly. The Griz should dominate this game. Near as I can tell - the receivers and passing game are about the only major strengths the Offense has. Tough to get it done being very one dimensional (unless you are playing the Griz D from last year!). Sorry, but it is the truth. New year - Let's exorcise one of the demons. Go Griz!! Maybe that is the new mascot. University of North Dakota Demons. Too many beers. Time for bed.

I think but teams are better in a lot of areas, and I don't expect UND to throw for 660, probably 550. I also think UM will run for 40 yards more, but will not pass for the same yards. Special teams and turnovers will be the difference. Same outcome as last year, UND wins. It is going to be good. Here are the 2012 numbers.

Great point, I forgot about that. There could be some scenarios where that works against the winner. It will still affect playoffs and seeding.
