UND's indoor practice facility

So do indoor practice fields create a winning team? I still don't understand the complete need for such a facility? The team does well with winter practices as is. And the riverbowl is great. Not to mention we're already winning without one.

Indoor practice facilities serve more than just football teams. Allows soccer and other sports to practice as well. ANd believe me, sometimes teams would rather be indoors. I'm sure there are times when the Griz move their practices indoors to the gyms. They also serve a recruiting purpose.

Could be used for winter conditioning as well. I get what you're saying particularly when ND plays in a dome. I know, I know it's not a campus facility and is used by many other events but it still makes me laugh.

Well we have a nice facility here in Billings. And although they don't use it, RMC is currently has the most wins of any college in America.

The success of the Bakken in MT compared to ND is 99% geologic based. Tax holidays and permitting process has little to do with the overall success. If you know anything about the oil industry which very few people in Missoula do (even though they will act like they do), you would know that if the oil in the ground is economically there very little stops these companies from getting to it whether it be legislation or what have you.
Communities like Glendive, Billings and Miles City even though they are not in the field directly benefit greatly off there location in major transportation corridors for the oil field. To say that MT doesn't feel the success impact of the Bakken is just foolish, its just not to the unfathomable extent North Dakota sees.
And Alpha idk when you heard that about the governor giving Watford City money, couldn't be further from the truth. We needed 200 mil, they gave us 20.

Heard Dalrymple say it himself on the radio. It is possible I misunderstood....but I swear he said they were investing 200 million in Watford. That sucks if you really only got $20 mil

I can't recall any politician that's ever misplaced a 0 or a decimal point...

Wow, UND is making some big moves. I'd love for UM to have a similar facility. An on campus building like that could server a lot of purposes for the university.

That brings up a question. If UM managed to get funding for this project, where would it be built? Golf Course, anyone

Given that this was constructed in North Dakota and built by North Dakotans, I'm wondering which natural grass was used for the playing field?

I'm not going to pretend I know, or care that much about the Bakken, but I can tell you areas of Montana are benefitting from its discovery. A small mom and pop laundry and dry cleaning service in Havre won a contract last year to do the laundry for just ONE company in the Bakken for three years and it's worth ALOT of money. The coveralls, jumpsuits ect. come on Amtrak every couple days. And get sent back on Amtrak. That's just one example.
Amtrak also hosts a contingent of hookers from the Coeur d'Alene area. One of my kids (26), spied a young lady on a westbound in the lounge car, and asked if we should ask her over for a beer. "Sure, why not." It was late and otherwise the dome was empty. She came over. Interesting story, She works as a librarian three weeks and then one week "in the Bakken." "Dancing." Her parents take care of her two small children for that week. She makes more in that week than the rest of the month. She is saving for a down payment on a house.

She went back to her seat. I looked at the kid. "There are 360 people on this train, and you zeroed in on the only hooker. Good job." The conductor later advised that there are four "regulars" from the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area that do the same thing.

Ha! If you ever want to see an army of working girls, book the Friday afternoon flight from LAX to Vegas on Southwest. It has to be 40% ladies of the night.

Been to Sunburst lately? That's what the oil industry does to communities. Boom and Bust...kinda like the Bobkittens.

Been to Fort Benton lately? That's what the river transportation industry does to communities. Boom and Bust.

Been to Jordan lately? That's what the cattle industry does to communities. Boom and Bust.

Been to Denton lately? That's what the farm industry does to communities. Boom and Bust.

Been to any of the dozens of communities that developed along the highline with the coming of the Great Northern Railroad. Almost all are gone. Does that mean that we should not have built the railroad because it would cause a Boom or Bust group of communities.

Been to Missoula lately? That's what the logging industry does to communities. Boom and Bust.

But, while some communities continue to grow, others disappear. In the meantime, a lot of jobs are provided during the Boom. Let's not let the fear of a Bust stop us from moving forward. Your mentality would have stopped construction of the interstate highway system.

After a 50 year period, virtually every business in Montana will have gone Bust. Does that mean that we shouldn't start any new businesses?

There is a lot more going on in Sunburst than there would have been if the oil industry had never come there. Sorry for the preaching, but I just can't handle the "glass if half empty" mentality.

Yeah, it was pretty cool. I ripped a few beers and watched a DI CFB game.

UND is on thee move, little thanks to our President. Don't doubt that a Canadian billionaire alum donates an on campus stadium either.

Would they do a football facility this time, or another gym? It really subtracts from the atmosphere playing indoors. It's borderline depressing to watch. It kind of reminds me of an American Gladiators telecast from the early 1990s. Just look at your Fargo campus, they've won like three straight championships and a home game still looks like a Clippers game on a Tuesday.

Like to see a glass roof stadium with windows on the north and the South that let in a breeze.

I'm beginning to see why "Roughriders" is actually in contention, and not a joke. It's all starting to make sense now.

New indoor facility had grand opening yesterday... http://www.undsports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=4658413&db_oem_id=13500

That roof looks a little bit low for punts. Just saying.

I would think the price of crude is responsible for the lull in Bakken activity in MT as well. Hard to start new development at the current prices. The coup de grace to the Keystone might also slow things a bit.

This would be an ideal time for UM to expand the geology and geography department, maybe compliment the petrol engineering coming out of Tech. UM needs to jump on this as there are a lot of community planning issues and the like which will spin off the Bakken boom.
