I guess i should have put this way...... Eastern Montana is the only place the Baken will prosper. Thats about it.. Eastern Montana might as well be in North Dakota for all i care. Its not very attractive place to live but Montana as a whole isnt gonna get rich by drilling oil.

Another issue with drilling in MT is its way more expensive and takes longer to do everything. A permit you can get in ND in an hour takes close to a week in MT. If they get serious about drilling in MT then they could speed up that process but right now it's a pain.

Heard the ND governor on the radio a couple weeks ago talking about investing $200 million of state money to Watford City for infrastructure and schools. Sidney schools have some of the highest technology classrooms I have ever seen. Every kid gets an iPad when they get to high school if they graduate they keep it. Just put in new score boards in both football and basketball this week. I got them programmed yesterday for the football game tonight.

All oil money.........and there is a lot of it.

The success of the Bakken in MT compared to ND is 99% geologic based. Tax holidays and permitting process has little to do with the overall success. If you know anything about the oil industry which very few people in Missoula do (even though they will act like they do), you would know that if the oil in the ground is economically there very little stops these companies from getting to it whether it be legislation or what have you.
Communities like Glendive, Billings and Miles City even though they are not in the field directly benefit greatly off there location in major transportation corridors for the oil field. To say that MT doesn't feel the success impact of the Bakken is just foolish, its just not to the unfathomable extent North Dakota sees.
And Alpha idk when you heard that about the governor giving Watford City money, couldn't be further from the truth. We needed 200 mil, they gave us 20. :evil:

Just spent this past week at the Little Missouri Inn in Watford. Nice hotel. Might have to stay there more often instead of staying in Williston.

Indoor practice facilities serve more than just football teams. Allows soccer and other sports to practice as well. ANd believe me, sometimes teams would rather be indoors. I'm sure there are times when the Griz move their practices indoors to the gyms. They also serve a recruiting purpose.

Heard Dalrymple say it himself on the radio. It is possible I misunderstood....but I swear he said they were investing 200 million in Watford. That sucks if you really only got $20 mil

I'm not going to pretend I know, or care that much about the Bakken, but I can tell you areas of Montana are benefitting from its discovery. A small mom and pop laundry and dry cleaning service in Havre won a contract last year to do the laundry for just ONE company in the Bakken for three years and it's worth ALOT of money. The coveralls, jumpsuits ect. come on Amtrak every couple days. And get sent back on Amtrak. That's just one example.

Anyway, UND's facility looks sweet. I've thought UM should have built this 20 years ago. Yes, they do help teams get better, they do help recruit, they do help the overall athletic department. I know, many old-school fans want to believe that frosty November and even December practices make the Griz tougher than other teams, and that's fine, but I refuse to believe the Griz would be less tough if they could go inside to practice when needed. Montana is just so far behind on these facilities. It really sucks.
