#UMRape vs #JohnsonTrial

Free speech sucks.

Insert "we have the right to complain about free speech". I get that, too.

Problem is, many of you are focusing on the wrong aspects of this sordid time in Griz history.
Says the guy who's only interested so he can tell rival fans "Haha, I told you so".

Wrong.

Any egrizzers at the trial today? What was JJ's mindset and demeanor like? Was the accuser in there? What was her mindset and demeanor like? This is going to be interesting to say the very least.

JJ held his head high. Accuser was not there. You are right, this trial will be interesting as the prosecution showed a hint of how they plan to prove their case.

NWF - I don't think many of "us" are focusing on the wrong aspects of this sordid time. Donaldson pled guilty and I do not recall a huge outcry about him being framed or wronged. The recent drug case - don't recall anyone coming to the defense of a young lineman saying he was wronged. This topic is about a trial that is just starting. Evidence has not even been presented and free speech vs irresponsible and biased reporting are the real issues. I think people are focusing on exactly the right issue in this case. The Misleadian and Florio have done a terrible job of reporting and covering this cluster f**k. A sad day for journalism sir. A very sad day for journalistic integrity. Shame on you for not getting the point!

A shout out to Colter Nuanez, the Bobcat beat writer who called out Gwen on her tag. Thanks Colter.
Well he is a um alum and admitted fizz fan after all

His bro played for the Griz, too. Still, it's amateurish for a "professional" such as Florio to have that hashtag on her Twitter posts. Hopefully somebody with some sense of decorum in the editing office called her out on it. I realize she has taken a lot of hate mail and smear hits for her reporting from misguided idiots who cross lines, but she is the only who prints in the newspaper, and she should be above the petty internet BS and namecalling.

I assume someone did as she (and the missoulian twitter account she also posts to) stopped using it.

Its worth noting that Gewn Florio never switched to #JohnsonTrial like her more ethical competitors did. She just stopped hashtagging altogether.
That's not exactly recognizing your error and changing course. I was curious how other big cases were tagged by the media. #sanduskyTrial was the tag most used in the Penn State ordeal. Media covering Lance Armstrong just hashtag his name or tag nothing at all-this even after he lost his titles.
Twitter's own blog on media hashtagging says the right hashtag can boost readership 50 percent. But if you have the wrong hashtag, people might not find your coverage at all. If everyone switches to #johnsonTrial and you're stuck on #umrape because you can't let it die, you are going to lose out.

Actually Griz4Life, she has started using that as well, in fact it appears everyone is. Good point on the hashtag use as well, looks like everyone is using #JohnsonTrial now.

As if we needed any additional proof that Florio is anything but a journalist, everyone of her posts includes the term "rape trial." None of the actual journalists covering the story feel the need to repeat it in every post. Plus its factually wrong. JJ is actually charged with sexual intercourse without consent. There is no such thing as a rape charge in the State of Montana.

Sad...her editor should be kicking her square in the ass for that. Instead of good journalism she continues to appear prejudicial. Why? Are you attempting to cover a trial or advance a vendetta. I would love to hear a UM Journalism professor give a critique of her coverage of this over the past year.

Luckily, Gwen was able to continue her bias with the way she composed the lead in today's article. She also "forgot" to report on the exculpatory texts by the accuser. Just a small oversight, no bias at all. :?
