Yes yes I agree if you put us up against an SEC team, heck any top tier FBS team we would give up so many yards and points and 9.9 out of 10 times lose the game. But what I don't get is people writing the Griz off in our league. If you put us up against any top tier FCS team, sure we would most likely give up lots of yards, possibly lots of points, but YES, we could win the game! Keeping the subject at the FCS level, when our team is executing the game plan well, and the coaching staff isn't making boneheaded calls (plays that don't match personnel on the field e.g. trying to do a proset inside power run at the goal line with a small rb without much weight and power 3 times in a row) I would say our defense, (and OFFENSE) can compete against anyone, including the Bison. Sure I would say our safety valve on D is our front 7, obviously the weakest point of our team is the secondary, and our linebacker speed to keep up with fast backs and tight ends. But, we can compete, at the FCS level which is where we belong. I'm tired of people bitching about how our defense sucks blah blah blah. Red Zone offense and Red Zone defense were something I pointed out prior to the season as areas of sorely needed improvement. Combine that with the +8 turnover margin (leads the conference), 2nd fewest sacks allowed and 2nd least penalized team in the conference through 5 games and these are key reasons why we're 4-1.

Nope, conference only stats are not meaningful early in the conference season (only 2 games). At this point of the season, the full season stats with 5/6 games) are clearly more meaningful.

In the categories listed above for the full season, the Cats are: no. 2 in scoring offense (behind UM), no. 2 in total defense, no. 4 in scoring defense (behind UM), no. 7 in pass defense (behind UM), and no. 3 in rush defense (behind UM).

Talk about cherry picking stats. I also point out that the stats I first posted above, were posted without commentary. They are what they are. No comment was made to say how good the Griz D is or isn't. No comparison was made to the Cats. Then insecure Cat posters had to attack the stats, and not pick out 2 games of stats when there are 6 available. The level of insecurity among some Cat fans is very significant.

Nope, conference only stats are not meaningful early in the conference season (only 2 games). At this point of the season, the full season stats with 5/6 games) are clearly more meaningful.

In the categories listed above for the full season, the Cats are: no. 2 in scoring offense (behind UM), no. 2 in total defense, no. 4 in scoring defense (behind UM), no. 7 in pass defense (behind UM), and no. 3 in rush defense (behind UM).

Talk about cherry picking stats. I also point out that the stats I first posted above, were posted without commentary. They are what they are. No comment was made to say how good the Griz D is or isn't. No comparison was made to the Cats. Then insecure Cat posters had to attack the stats, and not pick out 2 games of stats when there are 6 available. The level of insecurity among some Cat fans is very significant.

I agree it is a little early, but that is a good indicator so far. Big Sky teams recruit for teams in the Big Sky so comparing Big Sky stats only is usually the best indicator of conference success going forward. We will see where it is at 4 games in. Full season only is often skewed because some teams have played 2 DIV II teams, some have not played an FBS opponent and some have played 2 FBS opponents. I didn't Cherry pick anything. I picked the defensive categories that were mentioned at the top of this post. Anyway you slice it the Griz D has not played well in conference games (and looks a LOT like the same D as last year). Oh wait it is the same D.

No. 1 in red zone defense (by a wide margin), as well as tied for 1st in nation with Towson. 2d in defense against first downs.

Red Zone offense and Red Zone defense were something I pointed out prior to the season as areas of sorely needed improvement. Combine that with the +8 turnover margin (leads the conference), 2nd fewest sacks allowed and 2nd least penalized team in the conference through 5 games and these are key reasons why we're 4-1.

you are 1-1 with your win against the last place team in the conference.... lets at least get it right!!

Cats did not let nau inside the 25. That is how you win games!! But keep puffing yourself up with stats. The only stat that is important right now is 2-0.

Cats have 2 losses, including to a bad team. UM has 1 loss. Keep dreaming that the Cats are a great team this year. They either aren't or haven't shown it yet. NAU would have beaten the Cats if they had played at NAU a week ago, and the Griz would have beaten NAU had they played them yesterday. Monmouth, Colo Mesa and SMU (their only win is against the Cats).

That loss to a bad team was a loss to the top passing offense in the nation, and the Cats played their backup QB in that game to. I really have to wonder what SFA would do to the Griz with your weak secondary and SSH starting.

The other loss was to a FBS team.

Your speculation that the games against NAU would be different had they been played at different times is not based on any reality.

The Cats give up 52 points and 567 yards to SFA, and you blame your back up qb? Now that's pretty funny.

That is funny coming from someone who blamed ALL OF LAST YEAR on the back up QB!! The hypocrisy of you Griz fans is Funny!! :thumb:
