UM/NAU Game Thread

Does UM still have womens baskeball? I thought they dropped it when Shannon Cate graduated.
More like, they haven't evolved with how the womens bball game has changed since Shannon Cate laced'em up for UM :ugeek:

...of course, that being said, if I consistently won conference year after year, and had no pressure from the fan base to do better in the NCAA Womens Tourney, not sure I'd change my ways either...

I gave up on the ladies when they gave up....the Pitt coach described them as "one of those plodding teams"....says it all....it is fun for the ladies, though....so, more power to them..they are just not very good...

Sounds like I missed a fun second half. To be honest, I'm not surprised. NAU's 3 bigs had a collective 11 points, 6 rebounds and 12 fouls. Qvale and Selvig were better. Will Cherry isn't AJ yet but he doesn't have to be. He plays a different style game and is proving to be productive and exciting.

djolliedemeanor can be as snarky and dismissive as he wants while belittling every other Big Sky team...and he will continue to do so regardless of anyone's attempts at finding common ground or offering peace pipes. But I just don't see the U of M having the league title presented to them on a silver platter. NAU, WSU, N. Colorado and a few others will make noise at some point or another.

Work picked up and I missed all but the first 2 minutes of the second half. Hope to make it up the hill for the NAU-UofM game in Flagstaff. I expect a barn burner.

Til February, Griz hoops fans. Stay healthy and best of luck the next month.

Baller, when should they have played? There are 2 ladies games tonight, are they not important enough

NO!

Ladyball should be outlawed.

I have never understood the semi-interest in lady ball from Griz and Bobcat fans.

Oh, that's right!!! Women are supposed to stay home and have babies, aren't they?

hmm, playing bball or having babies...man..a tough choice....think I'll just go to Vegas, instead.

And a big raspberry to all of you who said they couldn't draw for this game. 4061 is a good crowd nowadays. Given all that was against it (day game, no students, mid week, women's tournament tonight), it was a great crowd, especially since a blizzard is blowing on campus. It's nasty out there! This Griz team is fun to watch, and fans are making an effort to come. Now, a short break, then back to Adams for the evening nightcap with the Ladies.

It was a good game - and NAU certainly showed a lot of heart (too much if you ask me!) in making a near comeback. I think the conference will go like that - a close conference race with nobody dominating. It might be a LITTLE early to predict the Griz will roll through this league.

The Griz have already had a couple of losses in games that should have been wins. But I do like the fact that for a young team the Griz have gutted out some tight games. This one especially with Qvale on the bench the majority of the game. It should be fun and it's promising that there is some interest in basketball again!

I would add that Tinkle stressed that they didn't execute their game plan very well...maybe the worst execution of a scouting report on the year. BUT he sounded happy they found a way to win a big game.

I fully agree...this was the most untypical Griz game this year....and they still managed to pull it out....

Why am I not surprised that a weeb fan would feel this way. I suppose those women should already be pregnant with their 4th and in the kitchen making dinner, huh?

I guess if your options are:
a) play w/ weaner
b) play w/ farm animals and furry sheep
c) watch a bunch a lesbians try to
hoop

I would choose c) too, I guess.

Is that because the Mormon church tells you it's a sin to jack it?

Wow, WSUnPurple. Which century are we living in? Do you even post over on Weber's fan forum or just come over here to spread the joy?

May all of your present/future daughters and grand-daughters become all-state in basketball.

The women are Grizzlies too and deserve some support. They are doing the best they can and are using a bunch of young players. They may have had their tournament scheduled before the men's schedule was made, I don't know. But they are busting their butts and love the game. If you want to gripe, gripe about the folks that gave women the vote. That's when the trend started. Every school has teams that aren't the flagship programs, but the Lady Griz carried the BBall torch through some years where the men didn't have it. If Tinkles team comes within 400 wins of Selvig's record, he will have had a fine coaching career.

Since both programs have to rent out the gym, I would certainly say with near 100% certainty that Selvig scheduled the tournament first. This is the time when the Lady Griz host their tournament.
If you want to blame anyone, I would lay some on Tinkle/O'day, but a whole lot on the big Sky conference and the bracketbuster game. This would never have happened if they didn't expand the conference the last time with Northern Colorado plus the bracket buster game.

Since the game today had attendance of 4,000 plus, I would not be surprised if O'day/tinkle thought it successful enough to schedule more games in the afternoon. I mean, there aren't too many games that the Griz get over 4,000.

Agreed. The very thing people don't want may happen more often.

It was a fun game -- there were flashes of brilliance and flashes of really-awful -- and I'm glad the Griz won. The question I asked my spouse about 10 times during the game was, "Is anyone guarding Cam Jones?" I'm not sure anyone was, all game long!! How many times did he, absolutely unimpeded, step back behind the three-point line and fire away??
