11,685 - 1773 does not equal 10,092.

um is winning the battle of the first and second derivatives. Not bad for a liberal arts school.

So let me paraphrase for you... MSU has 5000 or so more students. MSU increased enrollment, just not as much as expected. UM's enrollment went down, just not down as much as projected. Yet UM is on the upward swing now?

It's upward an trend because the rate of decline has slowed. Ha. Frosh enrollment up 2%, which is 24 students, I believe.

When you are hemorrhaging you have stop the bleeding before you can do the repair. No matter HOW you look at it there is still a lot of repair to do. Even a little progress on stopping the bleeding is good........... But whether you bleed to death slowly or quickly, you are still dead.

OK. 11865 instead of 11685. We have a dyslexic in the works.

Is the important number the FTE number, and it's down for undergrads. The FTE number is what State payments are based on, right?

Not completely Its about as clear as mud, but essentially the BOR can do what they want how they want with the unrestricted portion. The figure everything esle coming in as part of it (including land grant income etc.) the amount of funding doing to MSU has actually been disportionate for a while. allowing them to "give away" tuition (they have a name for it but its the same)

I get what you are saying, but I'm not sure that is the right comparison to make. Increasing freshman class size if continued will translate to an increased overall enrollment. The questions to be answered in the coming years are: will the freshman classes continue to grow, and, will we retain a greater percentage of those classes (graduation rates increase)?

Yes, the frosh "trend" changed for this year, but is 24 more frosh than last year that big of a deal?
