Tyler Ganoung leaves team

Agreed. It just kills me that people rave about the transfers IN, but say stuff like that when someone decides to hang up the cleats.

I have zero issues with him leaving. No matter the reason. If his heart's not in it anymore, why would you abuse your body?

EGriz never ceases to amaze me. When EGrizzers are talking about the team getting vaccinated they say they all must do it for the good of the team! Take one for the team they say! I said, your body your choice. I was the bad guy!
Now another guy is leaving for who knows why and I am the bad guy for stating one team one fight. Just to prove my point of all the Hypocrits on this site! Not saying AZ you said this! People can go back to that Covid threat and look who said what if they really care?

I don't disagree with 'my body, my choice' per se, in either instance. Whether your choice means you don't get to go to events or public institutions (no vax) or don't get to play football (mental health, don't like it anymore, or whatever), it's still your choice. In some instances, people's choices consequences they don't like. In this instance, it appears the young man's choice has its intended consequence.

I wish him nothing but the best.

From Hillsboro, OR; can play right at home for PSU. That is if he wants to play football.

My understanding is he plans to complete his degree and graduate this summer.

Isn’t he still a sophomore though? Can he do 2 years worth of a degree program in one summer? Just wait he transfers to MSU lol.

What is going on in the locker room, specifically with the Oline? This is becoming a trend, Cole sain, ganoung, keintz, and there have been others in that position specifically. Is it Germer? Something doesn’t feel right about it.

Ding ding ding

He's a soph in eligibility but has been at UM for 4 years. With the lost Covid year, we're going to see more of this type of thing at every program in the nation. Players will graduate and decide it's time to move on to the next phase in their life; maybe they already have a career opportunity; maybe they have a girlfriend living somewhere else, and want to be with them; maybe they're just tired of their body aching or of assuming the risk of CTEs.

I'm astounded by the sense of entitlement by some on this board. These are STUDENT-athletes. Getting their degree and becoming model citizens is the entire point of the program.

But even if you believe a player shouldn't leave mid-season "for the good of the team", do you really want someone who doesn't want to be there for whatever reason? Makes no sense to me.

This is from Tyler’s personal statement on a college recruiting site from years ago but may be relevant for discussion.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

“My Collegiate goals and aspirations are to play college football and have as much fun as possible doing it. I love the sport of football and Love playing it to my full ability. I also would like to study in Law to become either a state trooper, or a local sheriff. Also in college, I would like to meet new life long friends and just have a great time.
What makes me a good candidate is just my performance and effort level to football, Leadership, Dedication, Effort, and Drive to want to play college football at my best ability.
What sets me aside from every other recruits is my character, I'm always looking to get better if its either working out, school work, or playing football its self in a position. For athletics, I will drive my self to get better and succeed to my best as possible, and when i'm there, I will keep going. With academics, I am a all a, and b student. I will never be ineligible for one game, and or get anything lower than a b- on any class.”

This doesn’t add up to me. I suspect there could be something going on internally that has led to players leaving, first OL player that left earlier this year the reason is mental health, this next one, Tyler no exact explicit reason given as to why? Also, both players immediately removed from the online Griz roster on the website… Smells fishy.

Okay, so he only had a few months left to commit (assuming he graduates and finds a job). Why not just stay on the team for those few months then hang up the cleats then? Who knows what injuries could come up later this season he may have had a starting opportunity. There’s more to this story that’s not publicly available, and may never will be.

Also important to note, after graduating this Summer he could apply for a graduate studies program somewhere else with a football program and join them (PSU, MSU?) 2 years of eligibility left right?

Yup why don’t we share it with all the Griz players and encourage them to “re-think” being on the Montana football team. Wouldn’t that be a great mindset to encourage. 🤪

Why even start the year then? Entitlement? Was he on scholarship? If so did then should he pay the school back? If not why? Is he entitled to that scholarship? If so why? Lots of questions here.

Let me volunteer a lesson I learned from decades of of managing people. You don’t want people in your organization that no longer want to be there. If you keep them around you will likely rot from the inside.

He was my favorite offensive lineman on the team, I was hoping to see him lay some good blocks this year. I’ve followed him since he was recruited as a freshman. It makes me sick that he didn’t finish here and I’m hoping that Bobby Hauck or another coaching staff’s coaching style didn’t contribute to him deciding to quit mid season. If it was because of coaching style it would be nice to know, maybe a good HR meeting moment with Bobby and company. It’s a little weird to see turnover like this.

Great point but also I have a point. Mindsets and behavior internally can become contagious. Who’s to say the last OL who decided to leave didn’t have something to do with why Tyler left too. Is there a common denominator here that wasn’t addressed leading up to more turnover of player (s). I’d bet there is, More to this story…

I think you’re on the right theme here with entitlement. The problem though is fan entitlement.

Well Griz football is a product and I’m a buying customer so yes I have the right to complain about its performance.

It is strange. It would be less strange if it were a different position, but Oline attrition is a trend at this point, and we should probably wonder why.

Censored by the thought police. Thall shall not speculate on E-Griz.
