I think the two have played poorly. However, I think that 660 yards is attributable to our soft defense. When we did pressure the QB he always had somewhere to go. He got rid of the ball frequently as he got hit but to an open receiver. We are so far off the receivers their routes are never disrupted. Wide open receivers were open by five yards on every play. Our receivers are continually fighting for the catch.
The play of the defensive backfield is more a result of the scheme than the players. Anytime ND wanted a 7 yard out they got it. Also you have DB's always coming forward on slants, hitches or outs which results in receivers running by them on out and ups. If they play closer to the line they are more apt to be able to stay with the receiver.
