TSN Bias

If we took our top four, EWU, MSU, UM, NAZ and played head to head with any other
conferences top four in the FCS, we'd win more than we lose.

Completely agree

Question? How or why is South Dakota State still ranked at 5-4? One loss to Nebraska and the rest were to conference teams.

L at Nebraska, 20-59
L at North Dakota St, 0-20
L at Southern Ill, 24-27
L at Missouri State, 21-35

They weren't this nice to Montana last year.

I would actually argue that the Polls are pretty fair to SDSU right now. Those losses above are contributing to their great SOS.

They have one really great win over SE Lousiana, and then another good win over Northern Iowa. If you look at the CPUs, they have SDSU ranked at about 21 on average.

Is Northern Iowa a good win? They're on a 5 game slide at the moment.

This is why it is crucial for the griz to finish with no more than three losses. A non-deserving caa team will get in before a maybe slightly more deserving bsc team...

This Week's FCS Conferences in Sagarin Ratings

19 MISSOURI VALLEY
20 COLONIAL
21 SOUTHLAND
22 BIG SKY

Top 10 Teams in the Big Sky Conference and Colonial

81 Eastern Washington
85 Towson
87 Montana
94 William & Mary
99 Maine
100 Villanova
103 Montana State
122 Northern Arizona
128 New Hampshire
131 Old Dominion

6 are CAA, 4 are Big Sky

Not saying how accurate the Sagarins are.

oGriz,
CAA is looking really good again this year. They've had a couple of down years but Maine, W&M, Towson, JMU, Delaware & Villanova would all give any BSC team a tough game. Fyi ODU is FBS-independent.

Not sure I agree with the OP that there is heavy bias. I see a lot more balanced coverage now, especially compared to the Coulson years. I think there is an effort to be more inclusive which means more coverage for NEC and other low-tier conferences who are mostly east. Their brackets are a joke though. I quit paying any heed to them a few years ago when they had the Griz being outbid for a home game by Lafayette (or similar).

FCS Go!: You're right about ODU. I just picked them out of the Sagarins, and they are still listed as FCS.

Coulson was an abomination of Appy love and would put a tiny paragraph about the No. 2 team in the country, Montana, at the bottom of his articles.

TSN is based in Philadelphia and many in the FCS world think of the WEST as the Ohio Valley to the west coast -- kind of dividing the colleges in halves on either side.

TSN's Craig Haley is a "somewhat" frequent participant on weekly Big Sky Conference calls.

If you are going by any form of statistical ranking, yes, UNI is a good win. Not sure what is going on there, but the losses in this skid have been 3 OT games and close games. So they are probably a better team than the last 5 games indicate record-wise.

TSN died the day Tony Moss got promoted.

It used to be THE authority on FCS/IAA football. Now it's not worth the Ethernet it's printed on. I rarely even read it.

Agreed, on both counts. Coulson was a homer but he was better and more knowledgeable than what they have now.

Coulson wasn't the guy immediately after Moss. There was another guy named Dougherty,I believe, who came after Moss.

I forgot about him, he wasn't bad but I think he was there only a season or two.

I believe they are ravaged with injuries.

Whining about TSN is unproductive and reading it is as interesting as a long sit in the dental chair.

Your projection has no more behind it than the TSN projections. Pure speculation.
Pardon me for being speculative on a fan board.

For this week's TSN "In the FCS Huddle Preview," Brandon Lawrence begins his article with a reference to the upcoming Griz-Cat game. Most of the rest of the article (24 paragraphs total) is about the EWU-MSU game and how tough the conference is. And, BTW, Lawrence is a guest speaker on this week's Big Sky Conference call recording.

This week was probably Brandon's best writing...and I don't even think its because he was mainly talking big sky. It was nice to hear Craig Haley come out for the EWU game
