Trump Considers Executive Order on College Athlete Payments

Transfers did not happen all the time and you are the one with no clue how much many was paid under the table. You never played the game and you have never been close to the game. Just a bunch of hot air.
Are you really this dumb? Not only were players paid under the table, but Power conference programs hid players at JCs. Do you work for the NCAA because you sound as dumb as they do, thinking this wasn't going on? Idiot alert.

Yeah, I'm optimistic. The key will be making sure the commission is void of government bureaucrats making decisions. If the commission is comprised of free enterprise capitalists it will be fruitful. The co chairs are a good sign.
G Geezus H Christ, what we have now is the free market capitalism that gives all of you guys a wet dream until it ruins something you care about.

Not sure this makes you any more knowledgeable than hoops on the subject..or many others.
My info is from scores and scores of friends who played in the top level of D1, decades ago and more recently. Including guys like JD Quinn and Russum. From over 50 coaches, including many who are currently coaching and some family members. And from my now deceased friend who was the prior executive director of the SEC. So there. Ha.

Universities made this bed with how they shaped college athletics and now they don't want it. NO sympathy

I can't believe how obtuse some on here are being about this subject. Professional sports are a great example of capitalism in America. But they have:

1. Contracts. Both parties obligated to hold up their end of the bargain. College does not.
2. Limits on how much one team can spend to pay players ( salary caps) college does not.
3. Agents are limited on how much they can charge per contract they negotiate. In college they are basically charging whatever they want.
4. Tampering rules. College has zero rules in this regard.

NCAA is the governing body. They are pathetic and powerless, and have been now for several years.

You fail to mention collective bargaining agreements, which is critical to the distinctions between college sports and other situations you allude to.

Maybe the NCAA, the colleges, and the athletes will eventually get around to successful collective bargaining. Until then, adult college athletes should have the same rights as other adults.

High school NIL.

"Kai Trump’s staggering net worth as rare female high school NIL earner
While Mom visits the White House with new beau Tiger Woods, the high school golfer launches a new sponsorship deal that adds to her staggering net worth as the top recorded female NIL earner among high school athletes."

No. 1 in high school NIL for a female.

"The high school golfer’s newest sponsorship deal — launched Saturday, May 10 — adds some impressive dollars to her already sky-high net worth. Not only does Kai’s famous last name (her grandfather is President Donald Trump; Dad is Vanessa's ex-husband, Donald Trump Jr.) and enviable golf skills make her an enticing spokeswoman, but she lives in one of the few states that even allow high school athletes to earn NIL money in the first place.

Not only do very few female high school athletes get signed for NIL deals, but only 20 states even allow high schoolers to do so.

Florida, where Kai attends the elite Benjamin High School, is one of those 20 states.

According to On3, before the brand-new WHOOP deal, Kai was worth $1.2 million on her own — which makes her the highest recorded female earner in the high school sports world, and one of the top overall. Her sponsorship deals include TaylorMade Golf and Leaf Trading Cards.

Woods’ son Charlie Woods, 16, also plays golf and attends the same school as Kai. He has no recorded NIL deals on On3 — yet.

Kai has committed to start at University of Miami in 2026.

The NCAA?! 😵😂😂🙃

Because unlimited NIL, unlimited transfers, big money from big donors, bigger money from sports in college, etc. will ultimately hurt or even ruin college sports, result in more corruption and foster more cheating. In my view, this is not consistent with public or private universities. It’s becoming more and more outside the mission of college education.
100% agree. Amongst all of the other virtues lost, the core mission of a college education is basically gone.

I didn’t declare it. I just said the post was deserving - at least compared to the post a few days ago that Taber said I should get a Pulitzer for.
I think we're speaking the same language, except I perhaps have more cynicism and disdain for the NCAA than you. If this was the free market, my opinion is the NCAA would have gone extinct along with blockbuster movie stores and MySpace social media. When they came down heavy handed on UM for redshirts getting hotdogs and chips at the tailgates, in the same era Johnny manziel was getting away with literally whatever he wanted, they were no longer a serious or capable organization. Thus, even though against my natural instincts and beliefs, perhaps a commission lead by the POTUS could be helpful.

With Lou Saban heading the NIL commission, we know that some sort of "salary cap" mechanism will be on the table. Sounds okay and perhaps workable. But that also runs the risk of a bizarre return to the old day. Sure, schools will adhere to a top limit above the table ... but how much $$$ will now move under the table?

If it's an equal playing field for consequences if caught, then so be it. The ol saying "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered" comes to mind...

So - the punishment handed down by the NCAA on UM was self-imposed. #thanksRoyce UM didn't even counter the punishment or anything. UM was like "hey, we did this what do you suggest? And the NCAA was all "sure??" here you go" and UM went COOL! thanks!"

I will never forgive that pansy for nearly causing the destruction of the whole university over some hot dogs because he didn't like the coach.
