How about Lamariel Taylor? I know virtually nothing about him except he can’t get on the field as a WR and dropped the most important pass of his Griz career...can he play CB? Did he EVER play CB?

Interesting that today on Egriz some have mentioned they heard:

Justin Calhoun wants to play CB and is moving over to that side of the ball from WR (started at WR the last two years)

Same with Kobey Eaton to CB from WR

Jared Nagler to LB from WR

Caleb Hill from QB to TE

Interesting if all those play out...

Anyone else hearing more possible position moves already?

Calhoun - no....probably our best WR.

Nagler - no....maybe a switch to TE, maybe.

Eaton - a 6’3” WR who has never played CB against D1 competition? We’re not that desperate.

We have Nash, Crow, Egbo, Cowans, and a RS FR (forget his name but I remember that he’s an athlete). Sure, this is not an embarrassment of spoils, but how would adding a WR to the mix that has never played the position before at this level? HOW? One could argue that it could HURT OUR CAUSE, because the coaches would have to TAKE TIME FROM THE EXISTING CORNERS to attempt to bring a new one up to speed.

We’ve got 5 corners who have at least one year of experience practicing and playing at this level. I’d much rather see our coaches focus on making them the best players that they can possibly be, than let their development stagnate for the sake of bringing another couple green players into the mix.

I appreciate (and somewhat agree with) your sentiment, but we simply can NOT go into the season just 2-deep at CB. Can’t do it. ONE injury would be season-killing. TWO would be catastrophic. That’s just too thin of ice to skate on for 15 games (see what I did there?)

I think the only solution is a transfer or two that already know how to play the position. I just don’t think CJ Cox can spend a year coaching the basics to a few new corners while also coaching Nash and Cowans up to the higher level of play that they are capable of. We only have one CB coach. It’s experienced transfers or nothing in my opinion.

I disagree. I think we absolutely need to see a drop down and still need to convert for depth reasons. Your points are absolutely spot on, but unless we get 3 or 4 corners by fall, there will HAVE to be converts.

Edit: I re read the other posts and now get what you said in that context. My Apologies. Yes, to me it's OK to convert 1 or 2, but need 2 or more drop down/JC guys to fill in.
