Trevor Poole

The question is, what does the student athlete code of conduct say. It was the code of conduct, not Delaney, that decided how Poole would be handled up to this point, which seems to be they way UM wants this stuff handled now. No more decisions by a conflicted coach.

I'll buy - kids make mistakes, the Griz/this current staff have let kids back on that admit errors and serve the penalty given to them (Brian Maus comes to mind). Trevor has paid the price in the court of public opinion and will be also serving some sort of penalty I presume be it fine/community service/probation. I'd say as long as he doesn't screw up again - let him back on the team and make him work his way back.

+1

I'll pass. We will win without him. Just saying.

Ahhh...we have our first Griz fan who's never made a mistake in his life.

Why do people automatically go there just because someone has an opinion on not wanting Poole back?

Because he didn't imply anything else?

Where did twincity imply that he's never made a mistake? Not saying I agree or disagree with him but I can't stand the whole "obviously you've never made a mistake" crap. It's lame.

you know how many kids in missoula do drugs......have you ever been to a rave in missoula area.

Nope. We called em keggers. They were fun. No camera phones or social media. Wish I could remember more. Probably glad I don't remember more....

Yes they were a blast, no phones, cameras or facebook ect....

I would rather grow up in the era that we did and not the one now, thats for sure.

I think Trevor should be allowed back as long as he pays his dues and tows a straight line from here on. Question, would The Aber Day keggar be considered a rave in current terms?

A favorite quote of one of my Physics Profs, " I made a mistake once, I thought I made a mistake."

Human beings are not disposable. Whether "we" win or not with or without Mr. Poole is not the point, IMHO. I love Griz football more than anyone, but please, let's keep it real. If allowing Trevor back on the team helps him redeem himself, for himself, I'm all for it.

OK. Fine. Then he's saying HE'S never been given a second chance so neither should Poole.

Very well put.

A much better argument! :thumb:

No one knows better than Trevor about the dumb mistake he made. As a result, me thinks, he will be a much better adult and citizen because of it. We know he is a smart kid, works hard, comes from a great family, who stand behind him, and wants to continue his playing days as a Griz. I say, bring him back, make him earn his position, and prove to us all, including himself, that he has become a better smarter person and....football player.

Just curious. What would be the point of keeping Trevor off the team? To punish him twice!? To enforce a code of conduct that was implemented a period of high emotion and duress? To prove to student athletes that there are no second chances? To make him an example?

All of these seem a bit vindictive. If the ultimate goal is to train our young men and women to become productive members of society then depriving them of access to an opportunity to do just that seems absolutely counterproductive.

It was a code of conduct based on what other schools were doing. I would think it would be an awfully slippery slope to determine which felonies were "bad felonies" and which felonies were "good felonies" At this point he will also be excluded from federal student aid......

Whether one thinks our drug laws are stupid (I do for one) we are stuck with where we are at. I he would hope he would be afforded the opportunity to at LEAST finish his education. He may be sorry, he may be remorseful BUT he was also warned not to be there and clearly knew the consequences of what he was doing....... He wasn't blowing a little weed, he had pills that are also used as pseudo rape drug. Considering what the team had been through, that was stupid beyond a youthful mistake....

May be back in 2013. Plea bargain accepted.

Was there any modification? I thought it was a suspended sentence in exchange for a guilty plea?? The charge being a felony would exclude him under the new athlete code. I would have hoped it would have been a deferred deal so the charge would go away at some point. It was bonehead but it shouldn't follow him for life.

my understanding was that it was a defferred imposition of sentence, meaning if he keeps his nose clean his record is expunged, as if he was never arrested. the judge must have been convinced he is on the right path

That is great news if true..... He can apply halfway through for an early disppoisition, as I understand it making him eligible by fall.....

My guess is that IF MD allows him back on the team, it will be after a serious heart to heart conversation with him and that it would only happen if MD walks away 99% convinced that the kid is not going to F up again. I don't think MD is much for an X's and O's coach, but he does seem to be a pretty good character guy.

Re-habilitation! That is what all the prisons strive for in this country...Mr Poole is paying his dues for his screw-up as well. When all is said and done, he deserves the chance to gain back the same respect he earned before the screw-up. Only he can do this.... coaches only allow him the chance, and we as fans have to support him just as if it never happened. That is the true American way!

My 2 cents .......after I jumped all over Poole for his more than dumb act I hope he does indeed get a chance to continue on. Playing football at the U is an honor and he must realize that. He might get a chance to come back if Mick gives him the go ahead I am all for it.

Most older men with half brains understand drugs are not required and understand the last thing a man wants to do is drug up some girl to have a 15 min sex act. At his age and being a big shot on the Griz football team all he needs to do is use that "fact" to obtain sex.

Good luck to Mr. Poole
