Trent McKinney's semi break-out game coming today!

McKinney will never play better than he did today unless its against NoCo or a DII team. Hes not a QB.

"When the s%^& did we start bi&^#ing about 20 point wins?"

About 10 years ago. Some people still aren't over the fact DD and Don Read aren't coming back.

And even those people forget how many REALLY close games the Griz had to lesser opponents in those days.

TMac struggled a little today. And STILL
beat a good team handily.

NEXT!!

TMac was really solid today. He managed the game well, showed toughness, did not turn the ball over and made a few nice throws down field to Ellis Henderson. He also led us to a lopsided victory against a solid opponent. He wasn't deadly accurate today, but he is developing. The future is bright for #11......
;)

Solid??? What game did u watch? The O looked like something u find in a toilet. Poor kid can't throw deep to save his life. Sorry is I make anyone mad its just the truth. The D was ok.

I'll take this performance against Liberty for sure and hope for better ones against NAU and EWU in the next two weeks. TMac is fine, he's the right guy for this offense.

This. But you're gonna piss off Shiny Bobble's cheerleaders. Right now I'm hoping we finish at least 4th in the Big Sky.

they are not using all the playbook yet. almost the same things were said last year at this time. last time i heard "he will never ..." the man turned out ok ... his number was #80

TM is our best option at qb and he's impressed me so far. Especially for being a RS freshman... 95 yds passing looks pretty blah, but he has solid command of this offense, has speed, and his passing has improved tremendously from last year. Seriously though, who does he have to throw to? Gratton and Carver? Those are two very average receivers. Gratton -2 yds, Carver 2 yds today. Those two just don't have the speed to make the first defender miss in our screen game. And they won't all season. Gratton played well at App but he and Carver aren't worrying any D. Coordinators. Gratton's blocking is a big plus however and that's where he can help us.

TM can't throw deep... And who is our deep threat this year w/o Jabin? Haynes and Henderson are the only two who can stretch the field, but we haven't seen that develop. Our veteran receivers are the weak link of this offense. It was nice to see Henderson get involved today and I hope we continue to see Henderson, Haynes, and Saylor get more looks.

Some of you guys just don't and never will understand what we need from our qb for this offense to click. And some (growler) are just racist - just no other way to slice it after reading the threads about our QB "battle". We don't have a qb on this roster with a strong arm who can sit in the pocket and deliver balls into tight windows. And we probably never will as long as we run this offense.

We do have a solid, young QB who is developing nicely. This offense and team will be solid come November.

imo, t.m. was very average, even for a r/s freshman, i thought our defensive secondary was not even average,,,eastern washington will kill us, if we don't get this squared away....our c/b can't cover and our safties, well, they play it safe alright,,tully is not a hitter and hermy is suffering the sophomore jinx, i guess...just sayin.....

If we go to the wishbone...

i'm not sure about the starting position, but kemp is a much better option at backup qb than what we've seen so far. he would be far more composed.

I'll take any Griz win. Just felt not a good day for the O. No long drives and the pass D was soft.

Not making excuses here, but we are on a short week after the App State game. We also burned a lot of emotion with that one. Kind of a down game, but we still won handily and I think we will regroup for next week. Don't underestimate cross country travel and not enough prep. time for this game. Liberty was not a great team, but they were respectable. I will take this win gladly and cut the kids a little slack. Relax and let's see what next weekend holds.

I think it's time for some Griz fans to jump ship. You couldn't get over how much Joe Glenn ran the ball versus the Don Read air it out days (which I loved and was a student at UM during BTW). More of you really hated how BH ran the ball a lot even though somehow, for a team that NEVER passed, Marc Mariani became the school's all-time leading receiver in only two years as a starter. And NOW, some of you can't accept that the Griz run an offense with a true dual/threat, "athlete" playing QB. GUESS WHAT, the "air-bear" DAYS ARE NEVER COMING BACK!!! EVERRRRRRRRRR. So some of you that absolutely can't accept it after almost two decades of being gone, maybe it's just time for you to move on to a different team. This is what the Montana Grizzlies are, for now. Maybe it will change to a different style when Mick decides to hang it up, but this is what the Griz are and what I don't understand is, if some of you hate it that bad, and the only offense you ever liked was the "air-bear" and everything since has made you miserable, why would you continue to be miserable when you can't change it? Why not just go pick a different favorite college football team, and leave the rest of us Griz fans alone?

Sadly well said.

I feel like this board is repeat of last year. Everyone was throwing JJ and Pflu under the bus then look how it turned around. It's another building year. Very young QB who is doing a great job at this point. He is taking control of this offense and working on building his confidence. Yes he needs some work but so does the rest of the team. Our receivers that have the capability of getting down field are young. We aren't throwing across the middle at all which is where Gratton shines due to TM's inexperience. Our defense needs some real work. DLine and linebackers are doing well but the CB's need some work and so do our safeties. Never have I seen our safeties shy away from so many hits and opt to get mowed over and hang on rather than pop someone. I miss our head hunters of past years. With all that said I think TMac will come around and do well for us once he calms down and gets more comfortable. Same with the rest of the team. I'm excited for the potential this team has.

Yes I ADMIT I jumped the gun on Trent. HOWEVER the gun is being prepared to shoot. When? Soon.

McKinney had the nervous "highs" in the Liberty game and did not shine (as I expect him to do soon.) I talked with two coaches before the game, they indicated with smiling faces that we would see a ton of freshmen playing along with some other "young" players and expect some mistakes. Also mentioned was the speed they bring.

I noticed this:
Herbert Gamboa (Freshman) made and excellent tackle on special teams.
Connor Lebsock (Freshman) made a few nice hits on defense.
Brent Kirschner (Soph) made some very nice gains as a RB
Ellis Henderson (Freshman) made some nice moves, missed a catch in the end zone shoulda made.
Nate Harris (Frehsman) made some very nice tackles and hits at corner.
Matt Hermanson (Soph) Is playing like his Defensive boss wants.
Trent McKinney (Freshman) Is playing very well and getting better each week.
Josh Dennard (Soph) Playing good and is getting better at corner.
Jordan Canada (soph) I had quit on him. He shows some good things, has speed @ RB.
Nick Holt (Freshman) LB caused fumble, will be a good one in the up-coming games.
Justin Whited (Freshman) Good SP T Play. Looks to be a good one @ Corner.
Brian Maus (Soph) Has shown some good play.
Derek Crittenden (Freshman) Are you kidding me? He is a sleeper. Excellent DE.
Trevor Rehm (Soph) Playing very well at DE.
Zack Wagernman (Soph) Played lights out. Excellent now. Wow.
Samson Kaleikini (Frosh) OG got in the game and did very well at guard.
Chris Lider (Frosh) Kicked a few FGs and is doing very well.
Steve Shaw (Frosh) Punted the ball long, high and deep.
Tyrone Holmes (Frosh) DE as a true freshman? Fast, quick and started at DE. He is a comer!
Tonga Takai (Soph) Tough and great to have in the middle.

Yes I missed a few and am sorry. Fill in any you see as great young players. This list is one of the reasons most of you doubters should notice improvement in the coming weeks. Plus I think we have some great coaches that are giving these young guns a chance at playing. Money in the bank for later on.

Last season I seemed to think it was an abnormal year with all the stupid nuts throwing us into the garbage heap. Then we end up having a super year! Did not these fair weather fans learn anything?
Bitch when we win? Complain if we do not play perfect? Whine about the freshman making mistakes? Bother to watch the games, or are they simply out drinking their abilities? These "fans" remind me of a few of my ex wives!

Maybe I'm watching different games than the rest of you peeps, but I haven't seen a lot of wide open receivers that McKinney is missing. Our receivers don't seem to be getting much separation. Was Liberty's defensive backfield that good, or is it just our offensive schemes? Ithink McKinney will be fine. Much better than fine, actually.

Time will tell. But less than 100 yards passing against the vaunted Liberty pass defense doesn't garner confidence.
