Pizza went out of style in Missoula when Shakey's left.

Just drove by the old Shakey's about 10 minutes ago. Ahhhh, The days when the Kober brothers were slinging pies....

Sheriefs Pizza, not sure of the spelling, that used to be down by Bigsky Drive-in was great pizza, once you shooed the flies away.

Shakey's was good, but Sharief's Pizza Oven and Sharief's Pizza Parlor have never been matched, anywhere. One was on west Broadway and the other was on Brooks. Large Italian sausage and pepperoni!! Had to have one every time I got back to Missoula.

Are you talking the same Shakey's we have here in the Southland?

http://www.shakeys.com

I've never been there. I've always assumed it was bad.

If I recall they were bought out by some Pacific foreign entity. They've been building new ones, and I've eaten at the one in North Spokane, but not the same. Their chicken and potato wedges were awesome to, and you could watch them make it.

Sharief's was okay, but to me nothing special.....the Little Big Men had a few good years to, but they faded out. Places like Dominos, Papa Johns and Pizza Hut just can't match old time pizza. Place in Moses Lake, think they're called Chico's or something like that. They pile on the toppings....good stuff there.

The one in Spokane is no where near what the old ones were. There is still one in Palm Springs that we go to every time we are in the desert. Food tastes just like it did back in the day. We always get a lrg combo, lrg Trini Lopez and an order of fried chicken with Mojo potatoes. Killer food.

I can't say about the new shakey's, but you can always tell the old shakey's - Bavarian beer hall style seating, grease drips off the pizza, window to watch them roll out the dough, big fireplace. Best thin crust pizza you ever had. A true America failure story, great product, great presentation, poor financial management.

we had a great Shakeys on 24th st west in Billings, back in the day......was soooooo good, great pies, beer, breaded fried spuds and a stage where this old dude and his woman played a banjo and fiddle, and they also played old b&w silent films.......great memories....

My parents used to take us to Shakey's pizza when we were little.. they liked that place because when they were first married and poor they used to go there on Friday nights for dinner for date night.

No kidding. We were lucky to get a frozen Totinos that my old man had to heat up on the engine block of the Chevy cause our oven didn't work. The leaking transmission fluid gave it a flavor that was tolerable though.

Best pizza in town up until the day they closed. After that use to go to Happy Joe's on Grand.
