Too Early 2014 Predictions

Well I don't remember what he said last year... But once again, everyone knows that our entire season was ruined by a few plays. So that's in the past... What are your predictions for the Cats in 2014?

No, everyone doesn't know that--because it's not true. First, your season was not "ruined". It was a credible season. It was impacted significantly by the big fade at the end of the season, and some poor play early in the season. It was not "a few plays". It was clear, to objective observers early in the season, that MSU didn't have the horsepower and depth to be one of the top several teams in the conference. Injuries had some impact, just like they do for virtually all teams, but McGhee was not playing well even early in the seasons--and MSU showed that it didn't have the depth to have enough players to fill the inevitable gaps.

Many of the Cat posters on egriz were living in a dream world--from the get-go. You certainly were and are one of them. Not all Cat fans are like that. Many are much more objective and cautious. More optimistic in recent years, but still cautious. "Guarantees" like the ones you purport to make, are a sure sign of a troll and/or someone who doesn't understand the game.

Ha ha... well that's a great story, but we'll see how it plays out. Yes, our season was ruined, a huge disappointment, and not really expected by anyone other than hopeful griz fans. Until last year, Ash had brought this program along and built championship teams, each year exceeding the prior year's win total. Three years in a row winning or tying for the Big Sky title. I do think it's funny when people who don't "understand the game" see that the Bobcats lose McGhee and assume we'll be a .500 team. If you don't think the 2014 Bobcats will be in the hunt for the Big Sky title... you are going to be very disappointed.

The Bobcats may be in the hunt for the Big Sky title, but their season will end as it always has in recent years... a blowout loss in the playoffs if they make it there next season. I haven't seen anything to show otherwise, but Ash can't win the big games, and he has shown that over and over since he's been at MSU.

Pretty sure the Griz can run the table this year in the big sky. Bobcats lost the heart of their program and some skill players thay will not be able to replace. Eastern lost a lot of ol and a few on defense so they won't be as good as last year either, it is wide open and we have a skilled senior QB with a lot to prove. If the Griz open up the offense there is nobody in the country that can stop them at our level. My best guess is we go 11-1 and a deep run into the playoffs.

Many people are giving the Cats crap for being overoptimistic. But this... this is Griz over optimism.

True, EWUs biggest loss came from the OL and Dline. However, EWU has been preparing to fill these spots for years. We have plenty of talent on the OL and Dline to fill in the gaps. Remember when EWU lost its receiver trio? Everyone thought EWU would be out of the picture then. We aren't losing NFL players this time.

I think many egriz posters are being refreshingly realistic. I also believe that UM will be a 9-3 team. However, if the griz can't adequately replace Tripp, Coyle and Kistler, then 8-4 is probable. I also agree with some of the posters that MSU will not be a toss up and more likely, will be slapped around by their Griz step-father. I also think that without Baumann, Griz will be able to beat their NAU kryptonite.

Looks like offensive line lost a lot, but several starters were down with injuries last year and will be back this year. DJ Martin should be eligible on offense and the besides the o'line, really lost no one on that side of the ball. Defense loses some d'line but everywhere else will be solid. Should put up a lot of points and probably lose a max of 2 games with the schedule they have.

these three teams all look good. until someone figures out how to slow down eastern they're going to win the league, but someone will. someone always does. we have issues on defense and so does eastern. state isn't great on either side of the ball.

1. Overestimate the strengths and underestimate the weaknesses of your team.
2. Overestimate the weaknesses and underestimate the strengths of everybody else.

good post. mick has righted the ship. we had 40 player incidents in the four years prior to his hire, but just eight in the two years since his hire, but four of those were from the rave party. only three charges filed since mick's hiring compared to 31 from 2008 up to when he was hired. :clap:

regardless of the w/l record mick will be here at least through the probation.

actually this is typical of your misinformation. first, i didn't say 40 "charges" i said 40 "player incidents" (actually there were more than 40, but i just ballparked it). second, i see you deleted that part of conversation. nice try, not really. :lol:

j.j.'s charge was not proven to be true or false. the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt lies on the accuser and in this case she didn't provide enough proof in the eyes of a jury and they rendered a not guility verdict, which does not state that the charge was false. you're a lawyer, a dartmouth grad no less, and you don't understand that? only j.j. and her accuser will know for sure what happened, while the rest of us can only have an opinion. the only thing that not guilty means with any certainty is that the defendant isn't going to jail.

it isn't ridiculous to bring up charges brought prior to being here, because it reinforces the win-at-all-cost mentality that was prevalent during that time. mick has no such mentality, which is one of the things that makes him a good coach and one we needed during this time. that is one of the things that makes him a candidate for coach of the year honors. perhaps that isn't something you picked up on?

Typical of your misinformation. You said there were 40 players "charged" in the prior 4 years. No way that's even close to being right. Much of the top of your list was were Delaney. No player or coach was charged for breaking a window downtown. The coach wasn't even there at the time. Being suspended for a game for violating team rules is not the same as being charged with a crime (JPK and Holt). JJ was acquitted; false charge. False reports resulting in no charges are not "charges" of a crime. Jeez, you are really something else, trying to say that a false report or an offhand remark in a newspaper article is the same as being charged with a crime. Yes, some DUI arrests, a number of which were dropped or plead to a minor/lessor charge. Yes, the burlgarly was bad news. Yes, the 3 frosh fight/punches were too bad, but eventually the charges were reduced to misdemeanors for those who hadn't already plead.

40 "charges" in that prior 4 year period is total BS. You are completely dishonest. And bringing up stuff before someone was a UM player and even in Montana is totally ridiculous.

j.j.'s charge was not proven to be true or false. the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt lies on the accuser and in this case she didn't provide enough proof in the eyes of a jury and they rendered a not guility verdict, which does not state that the charge was false. you're a lawyer, a dartmouth grad no less, and you don't understand that? only j.j. and her accuser will know for sure what happened, while the rest of us can only have an opinion. the only thing that not guilty means with any certainty is that the defendant isn't going to jail.

it isn't ridiculous to bring up charges brought prior to being here, because it reinforces the win-at-all-cost mentality that was prevalent during that time. mick has no such mentality, which is one of the things that makes him a good coach and one we needed during this time. that is one of the things that makes him a candidate for coach of the year honors. perhaps that isn't something you picked up on?

You have a very bad memory. You said your "charge" numbers are corrects, and you have links for them. This is exactly what you said above several hours ago: "my charge numbers are spot on. a link is available for each one."

There's a presumption of innocence. A not guilty verdicts equals innocent. A 90-minute deliberation after an almost 3-week trials indicates that the jury didn't believe the charge, which is also what most of the people who had watched the trial closely thought. You don't understand the legal process, or our system of our system of government.

UM has never had a win-at-all costs mentality. NEVER. Delaney wants to win exactly the same amount as Pflu and Hauck--and that's alot. I know each these coaches, and many of the assistants, fairly well--and have discussed this subject specifically with them, as well as with O'Day. You don't know what you're talking about.
