Tommy Mellott > Dave Dickenson

These are my thoughts and I am just and old man so take them or leave them.

The offense that Dave played in was/is totally different from that of what Tommy is playing in.

I don’t think that either of them would thrive in the same offense that the other runs. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

If you look at the QB position as defined by passing, Dickinson is by far the better QB.

If you look at what each of them brings, or brought, to the offense that they run, well it gets a little bit more complicated.

Both of them are great players and great leaders. They both exemplify the traits that make our State one of the best in the country.

The game has changed since Dickinson played, but he is still the better QB.

Tommy is probably the better athlete though.

In my opinion I think both of them should be considered the best that our great State of Montana can display.

Maybe it’s the fact that time is creeping up on me as I approach 80. I wish for the Butte rat to win the Payton award and the Natty. It could be that my wife of 65 years is from Butte that I am rooting for the kid, or maybe I am just senile.

I was in Frisco last year, probably the last time I will be able to see our/my Griz in the championship live. I would rather see boys from Montana hoist the trophy than any team from the Dakotas.

Send your dislikes my way, I am not sure if I will ever remember them so it will probably never happen in my mind.

I am going to end my thoughts and probably one of my last posts ever with something that I believe we all believe in, hence some of my kind words for the other team in our state.

Up With Montana

This is a thread made by a Cat fan or by someone that don’t know ball. There’s only 1 Dave Dickenson. I’ll give Tommy props if they win, but he couldn’t hang in Dave’s era given the defenses would’ve been able to knock the shit out of him.

Tommy is in a class of his own...combination of a throwing RB and a QB..
there is really no comparison here agree to DD...great kid extremely talented
and humble...I wish him well against the Bison...

Seeing that DD won the Peyton AND a championship, you can’t compare them. But, Thomas is still an outstanding young man and represents the state well. He deserves every accolade that can be given and has earned his place in the Montana Sports Hall of Fame.

Just not on the same level as DD.
Agree. Have to win the natty to be at Dave's level

Regardless he is a generational talent, and a good face for their program. Luckily we had one too during the same timespan in Junior. Setting FCS records and a million dollar smile.

Sure glad we won’t have to worry about that break away speed from a QB for awhile though.
