TikTok

So people are okay with your own US government collecting data on you and spying on you, but are concerned about the Chinese? Hate to burst your bubble, but what our own government collects on us, and through invasion of our privacy is far more devasting that some Chinese dude tracking my tik tok behavior.

americans need to wake up about how pervasive the ccp's spy machine is globally. their 'trick' is to threaten ethnic chinese abroad with harm to their family members still in china, in order to get them to spy for the government. control, control, control... that's what the ccp wants, and tiktok is just one avenue for them to use to gain it.

that is an absurd leap by you, i said no such thing.

I would prefer if NO government collected data on me. Is that ok?

Many people wouldn't or couldn't do what you suggest. I believe the goal is to make TikTok make changes. If people want to get around them, so be it. Same with the providers of the app. Make them do what they reasonably can.

Suggesting that we shouldn't have speed limits or seat belt laws or laws against drinking and driving because it's impossible to enforce them at all times, is irrelevant and just plain stupid.

All of the "TikTok" generation knows that VPNs exist and use them regularly, location is just a checkbox in a phones settings. You're an idiot. If all of MT was TikTok users it would represent a tiny fraction of their users, less than 1%, the app developer is just going to say "LOL. No."

This legislation is stupid on its face.

I actually know quite a bit about the tech subject, having represented many tech companies including Gianforte's RNT. I have 5 kids to consult, two of whom work directly in tech and one at the top tech law firm in the world. I'm not an expert, but I have good access to expertise.

And, our lake neighbor, who has been spending summers here working remotely works for TikTok. I talk to her frequently.

Are you trying to tell us that IP protocol/address is set in the phone? That's pretty funny. You are some kind of expert.

"He [Oded Vanunu, head of products vulnerability research at the cybersecurity firm Check Point,] suggested it would be more feasible for TikTok to comply since it controls the software and can “adjust the settings based on the geographical location or IP addresses” of users."

"Where else is TikTok banned?

In February, the Biden administration approved a TikTok ban on all federal devices, citing concerns that ByteDance would give user data to the Chinese government or promote propaganda and misinformation. Nearly half of U.S. states have outlawed the app on government devices, and Utah and Arkansas have laws requiring parental approval for anyone under the age of 18. Some universities have also banned use of the app on wireless campus networks.

Other countries have also imposed TikTok bans on government devices, albeit often with some exceptions. In the United Kingdom, for example, most users of government-issued devices are barred from using the app, though Downing Street has said they don’t have plans to delete the No. 10 TikTok account.

India is one of the few countries with an outright nationwide ban on TikTok and 58 other Chinese apps, which went into effect in January 2021." Source: Yahoo.

Has NOTHING to do with Griz football. Please delete original post.
Did you click on the link in the OP to a national AP article?

Anything look familiar?

The one that says this under the photo?

“ Adam Botkin, a football TikTok influencer, uses his phone after recording a video for a post at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Mont., on Monday, May 1, 2023. Botkin, a former walk-on place kicker and punter for the Montana Grizzlies, gained notoriety on the social media platform after videos of him performing kicking tricks went viral. What’s the difference between TicTok and climate change?
A: We have scientific evidence for climate change!

Do we? Or is it just manipulated for the purpose of politics?

Truth is that climate change has always existed. Just look up the hill above Wa-Griz Stadium, and the benchmarks are proof of that. When Glacial Lake Missoula drained during each event it was climate change that was responsible.

I believe he was referring to human-caused climate change, which is obviously much different and much more dangerous than natural climate cycles over time.

Is it? Ice Ages seem like a big deal to me.

Are you seriously comparing the pace of natural climate change during the ice age versus the pace at which we are changing the Earth's climate currently? Come on, you are an Ivy Leaguer. You're better than vapid.

This. Plus your data gets shared just about on anything with several foreign countries. People are clearly oblivious to this lmao

I was comparing the severity of climate changes, which was the subject of the post I commented on. Do you know how to read and comprehend?

Did you think the Ice Ages were not a big deal? Did you think current climate change is going to be bigger than the Ice Ages? If so, you are stupid.

Lawsuit filed in Missoula federal court by people who are TikTok creators. Lawyers are a big Seattle law firm. Local counsel is Boone Karlberg. Lead lawyer is: https://www.boonekarlberg.com/attorneys/natasha-p-jones/

They want to have Judge Dana Chrisiansen, I assume.

"According to the lawsuit, the five plaintiffs, all Montana residents, include a designer of sustainable swimwear who uses TikTok to promote her company and engage with customers; a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant who uses TikTok to connect with other veterans; a rancher who uses TikTok to share content about her outdoor adventures; a student who is studying applied human physiology and shares content about her outdoor adventures; and a man who shares humorous videos on TikTok and earns revenue from the content he posts."

What you call the pace is actually no different. Don't buy into the false narrative. I am, and work with scientists every day. The media manipulation, and the false narrative that leads to fear mongering is pathetic. Nature will compensate. Wasn't that long ago that everyone was worried about the ozone layer, plus just look at what happened in 1883.

I was in senior management in a different industry about 20 years ago. I was amazed at the data that we could collect that was considered public information - much of which we would consider private information. Sources were wide ranging but at that time voter registration lists and sports licensing information was available in many states for a price. And that was before social media. There should be no presumption that any of your information is private - they already know, so this stunt over TikTok is nothing more than political.

I know you've been well travelled, but have you ever been to Twin Falls, Idaho? The ramp Evel Knievel used for his Snake River 'leap' is still there. Now, THERE is an absurd leap. I like to put a visual reference to hyperbole.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5LdesoNFpY

What we're not being told. We can't use the platforms that gives citizens opportunities to hear things different than the desired narratives. How dare we look for alternative resources! Wake the f up people!
