Griz won at James Madison in the semis

Griz lost to James Madison in the National Championship game in Chattanoooga in 2004 in a game Griz should have won except for a costly penalty (roughing the passer) on 4th down that kept a JMU drive alive and pitiful field conditions (new sod)!

On a decent field Griz win National Championship in 2004.

James Madison had to play on the same field.

You drive a sports car and I will drive a pick up and let's go offroad racing. Same course, you have an equally fair chance.

While I don't know if the field was turf the Griz would have run, but JMU had an advantage with the crappy field. They were much more power run based than we were.

JMU flat out ran it down Montana's throat on that field....horrible. Yes they both played on the same field but those conditions played into JMU's strength that night. They deserved to win the game..

As far as the 11 year old thread, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Your post is just too good. I loved reading it. The parallels between the two are worth noting. Thanks for digging this out for us.

What I've gathered the last week is that the bottom line is we should win every game we play in. If the other team has better players than that's on the coaches. If our players don't make routine plays and miss tackles, that's on the coaches. Coaches win games and we need to get coaches who can win every game regardless if the team we are playing is more talented. PERIOD.

Either that or people think we are the most talented team every single week, and lose because of our coaches. Can't decide which is more ridiculous.

Probably not much point in arguing about a game 9 years after the fact, but in my opinion on a decent field with Washington Grizzly Stadium type artificial turf or good natural turf, Griz win the National Championship in 2004.

Messy field played into the hands of JMU's power running game, although the poor field conditions were not JMU's fault. Glad NC game moved from Chattanooga. :thumb:

This is the egriz constant, we've got the best players, but the coaches are bad. It's been this way since the dawn of time.

I'm glad others have jumped on my label of Montana being a coaching carousel.

I remember everyone saying that JMU wore illegal spikes that were too long...anyone remember that? Was it true or just us trying to justify our loss?

Kevraid, you are thinking of the wrong game. Everyone is talking about the 2004 National Championship game against James Madison, not the 2008 semifinal game.
