I agree the gris defense isn’t extremely impressive. But they 100% have the best run defense we will see in conference play. On top of this their scheme is tricky and will not be easy for Lamson to hammer, although there is a history of bobcat QBs winning this game on their first start. I like a lot of matchups on the outside and think their is plenty to take advantage of there IF Lamson get be comfortable. I personally don’t think we will run it all over them, at least early as BH and co wants Lamson to pass it as that is likely the biggest weakness.
Not sure why the McKay to Lamson comparisons are happening, Lamson has better numbers than Tommy did last season in conference play, just lacking the explosive run ability. Lamson is much more comparable to the recent XDSU QBs in his style (big dude, can run, can pass, excellent leader, and very officiant).
To be frank whatever QB plays the best will likely win this game. If Ah Yat can find gaps in the 4-2-5 and can find the favorable matchups, the cats d will be in a pickle. If Lamson can calm down and recognize the 3-3-5 pressures and eye candy, of course with the OL’s assistance, he will have success. I believe the cats have an advantage overall due to their impressive 4 man front and their ability to stop the run. On the other side of the ball the gris d-line isn’t what it used to be, specifically with Gubner in 23, and she cats should have a slight advantage in the run which then will force the defense to play more aggressively and open weakness in the secondary.
