I recall hearing that Nelo Butler was done as a result of his injuries and would not be able to play for the Grizzlies. I hope that's not the case but I'm sure that's what I heard last year.

Anyone know his status?

i believe BW posted in another thread that he was healthy and ready to compete....

Yeah. I watched every single game, genius. In fact, every play of every game. Some multiple times. Kirschner had an almost IDENTICAL YPC as Moore, against 2nd & 3rd string defenses.

Kirschner goes 7 carries for 17 yards against UNC, 7 carries for 23 yards against WSU, 10 for 24 yards against D-II Western Oregon and 4 for 37 yards against MSU, followed by 8 carries for 13 yards aginst UCA and 3 carries for 21 against UNI. In the 3 games Moore was out, Kirschner got 17 carries and gained a whopping 47 yards. Yep, he's a real barn-burner.

I'm gonna go with the coachs' opinions that if Kirschner was a better back, he'd have played over Moore (and CERTAINLY over a 1-legged Moore like he was at the end of the season).

I like Moore, but there is one point that jcu made that was at least partially right. (in my mind at least) His vision is hit or miss from play to play. Half of the time Moore will just put his head down and run right into the back of his blockers. The times when he makes it throught the line I'm not sure if it was because he was watching where the hole was opening up or because he got lucky. Either way, when he makes it past the line it is usually pretty entertaining.

He's had less time to develop than Moore. Moore, has had plenty of chances. What has he shown? He can lose more yards than he can gain?

IMO, I think we are going to see a really special duo out of Canada & Moore. I think this will be the year that our RBs get nasty!

Like a combination of a Barry Sanders - Larry Csonka / John Riggins backfield.

Evidently, you never played the game; at least, not on defense. A couple years ago when the Griz had a Justin Green in the backfield one of the opponents dbs tried that, tackling around the legs, thighs, etc., and ended up in the hospital after being carted off the field on a stretcher. You be a 185 lb db trying to tackle a guy that's 240 sometime; especially with the massive thighs J.G. had. Powerful uplifting knees as well.


Try wrapping your arms around the waist. locking your arms, and hanging on for as long as you can, trying to break the opposing player's, that's carrying the ball, balance, or fumbling the ball, or until fellow teammates come up for support. Gang tackling they call it; Don Shula implemented that when he was the HC of the Baltimore Colts in the late sixties. It still seems to work most times to this day, even. Worse yet is trying to shoulder tackle the ball carrier; good only, if and only if, near the sidelines as you can try to knock the runner out of bounds.

He's had less time to develop than Moore. Moore, has had plenty of chances. What has he shown? He can lose more yards than he can gain?

I guess it depends on you define tackle... take him down after he knocks you flat on your ass and he stumbles and falls, yeah probably. He did that a few times last year, ran into defenders so hard he knocked them flat/made them lose their helmet and went the ground doing so. I guess that is tallied as a tackle.

Are you kidding me? Dan Moore represents strength, determination, and heart. Thats what Grizzly football is all about. What we don't need right now is wanna be football players knocking the actual football players. This is about as dumb a discussion as I've read!
