This season is...

I would have. Predicted undefeated or maybe one loss with some slip-up before the brawl. Easy schedule, million home games, and good to great qb play and 10-0 was very possible.
Well done, ILTC! Meticulous documentation. I, on the other hand, can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday morning.

I hope you're right. Tim's Defense has been total crap. 117th in the nation against the pass and 34th against the run. Those are not numbers that say we're a National Championship contender.
Can be - again, complete games of complimentary football and limited missed assignments...

Defense needs the offense to be better in certain situations.

That's subjective, not objective. I bleed Maroon and Silver, too.
The one thing we have, without a doubt, other than our crowd in WGS, is Bobby's hatred of the scats. The crowd has shown it can be turned off like a switch, though. Someone has a Bobby quote as a signature line on his eGriz account: 'I just wish this game had five quarters, so we could kick their ass some more.' IF he sticks to that, and doesn't take his foot off the gas(NEVER IN THIS GAME!), Griz should win. If not, ...
Let's not forget KAY is a legacy and was born a cat-hater. Dude is going to throw for 450 and 4+TDs because the cats are going to try to take away the run game...and they will probably do so.

cat secondary is in for a very, very long day - a Bleskin-like long day.

I think you should all watch the latest episode of Tripp and Nunez.
Very interesting discussion on Hauck mixing back ups with starters when they get an early lead.
They also discuss how Hauck likes to see back ups in uncomfortable positions (not putting starters back in when a lead diminishes) to see how they react. Nunaez gave examples of games where Hauck opens the playbook and seems to keep the throttle down like the SAC game. I expect the cat game to be similar.
Interesting that Montana back ups would be more experienced in real game situations vs cat backups who seemed to have played during blowouts with nothing on the line.

Not sure if what they say is true, however I found it interesting and was a great listen.

I had the Griz at 9-1 at this point in the season with a loss at ISU. Glad I was wrong.

This is not new...it is the BH way.

He has always worked to have teams make steady improvements in season...and begin peaking trajectory right before the Brawl. Playing 2s and even 3s and making them persevere is a key component.

It's in his book titled - "FTC."

I hardly ever watch the post-game interviews, but this last one was an exception. When asked about the onsides kick foul-up, he said something like 'missed assignment'.................then asked the questioner, 'You got any suggestions for that,....huh?' I laughed so hard I almost messed myself!(y)
It would have been priceless for the reporter to follow up with a question asking if he's ever considered hiring a true special teams coach.

I agree it has been brought up on e-griz many times however always seems to be dismissed by a certain faction of the fan base.

Weird that such a "crap defense" is giving up so few points.
How many games have the Griz managed to get through by the skin of their teeth? EWU was a done deal had it not been for a flubbed snap. The defensive coaching has been crap all year. It's easily the worst defense the Grizzlies have fielded in decades. Prove that I am wrong? How many seasons and games did the defense get that team through? How many playoff games? They have been flat lucky this year. The offense is producing historic numbers. The defense is garbage. Tim needs to be moved back to DBs and Bobby needs to hire an actual DC that knows what he is doing. Tim was a great player. He was a great DB coach. He is not a DC.

They looked pretty dominant to me last week. The team is undefeated. The Griz are giving up very few points. This is obviously subjective, so I don't know how I could really "prove" it to you, but the Griz lead the conference in interceptions and are second in the nation. Third in conference in sacks, ahead of MSU (who have a great defense).

Most importantly, to me, they are second in the conference in points allowed and if the Griz had allowed one less point per game they would be in the top 25.

Those are not the hallmarks of a "garbage" defense. We had some absolutely incredible defenses in recent years, particularly 2019-2023. I think many Griz fans' opinions are skewed by those years.

Whatever people may think, the Griz are 11-0. By this time on Saturday, they will be either still undefeated or (god help us!) a one-loss, top 4 team. It’s hardly been a perfect season nor an easy one. This is a team that has been hard to depend on. Yet, when push comes to shove, every time they have found the way/will/grit to win. I do believe in Bobby and this team, and will be in WaGriz on Saturday cheering my heart out. Hope you can be there too.

For starters, pick any of the Stitt teams.

Comparatively speaking, Stitt's winning percentage against the Puds is better than Hauck's. Stitt's was 33% and Hauck's is 25%. If they lose on Saturday it will fall to 22%. I know people in Montana think the Griz/Cat game is the be-all end all and nothing else should matter but beating the Cats. I could care less if the Griz beat the Cats. Rivalries are stupid.

I DO care about this game, because that #2 seed is crucial for the Grizzlies success in the post season and seeding, and I DO care about that. If MSU loses, I doubt the pollsters and Playoff committee will move them very much. Maybe to five or six, maybe. probably just to #4. If the Grizzlies lose, you can bet they are going to say "this just proves what we believed all season" and will drop the Griz to #8/9/10, especially since MSU's AD is sitting on the committee. He shouldn't have a final vote anyway.

Hauck is .500 against the Cats....

I have never claimed to be a college football expert. I never played the game in college. At best I was a crappy DE for 1st Tanks when I was in the Marine Corps.

I watch the games, read the stats read the pundits, listen to podcasts, and only the very most die hard of die hard fans believe the Griz are going to win this game. Everyone else has a little doubt. A lot of people are hoping, some are praying to the football gods, and I am willing to make a burnt offering of Brats and wings to the football gods for a win, I just really don't expect it to happen.

That being said, IF the Griz beat the Puds, I am going to be ecstatic and like I said before, EVERYONE is more than welcome to troll me and point out what an idiot I was for the next year.

Back to the post:

117th out of 125. Interceptions aside, please explain how that can ever be good? I can concede regarding the rushing yards allowed. 36th in the nation isn't terrible. it's not elite, but it's not terrible. 117th is terrible.

Offensively, the Puds are not going to be able to stop Montana from scoring. There are just too many weapons, and that the most balanced I have ever seen, to include the Championship teams.

Bohannon, Davis, Wortham, Shafer, Deck, Gale Gillman, Fonoti, Rocker are all weapons man. They aren't just good, they are elite.

I am admittedly subjective when it comes to KAY. He makes really bad decisions sometimes. He forces balls when he doesn't need to, he goes deep when he can pick up a first on a crossing route, and I am surprised he started tucking the ball, because he is a really good runner when he decides to run, it makes me cringe because we haven't really seen Jensen all season and if anything happened to KAY, who knows.

I know this game, this year, is probably one of the most important for the Grizzlies in years. If they can hold on to #2, and get seeded #2, it's going to be tough for anyone to beat them at Wa-Griz, UNLESS the committee decides to put UM and the Puds on the same side of the bracket. It's hard to beat a team twice, so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea, idk.

That post went a lot of directions. I wasn't claiming that I believe we will beat the Cats. I have no idea and I've learned to never predict this game.

To the specific point I was replying to, you saying the defense is garbage, I have had that conversation ad nauseum on here and just pointed it out to you again. We are NOT 117th out of 125 on defense. That is just passing yards, nothing more and nothing less. The Griz have been playing a LOT of prevent defense and soft zone this year. The team got burned on deep routes early in the season, and corrected the scheme to make sure that didn't happen. It seems obvious to me that the decision was made to keep the passing yards in front of the defense rather than letting people loose on the back side, make the tackle, and tighten up in the red zone.

That strategy is WORKING. The team is undefeated. They are just barely outside the top-25 in the nation in points allowed. Second in the conference in points allowed. Points are what matter, not empty yards.
Interceptions turning into points for our offense also affects the outcome of the game MUCH more than empty passing yards. I know this isn't just you, but plenty of people are cherry picking one stat to claim a defense sucks when, objectively, they are getting the job done. It hasn't been pretty, but it has been effective.

Another important stat that is being ignored is that we are second in the conference in rush defense. That is also part of why teams are passing so hard against us, because they cannot run the ball effectively. The Griz are a total of 20 yards per game outside of being in the top 15 in that stat, too.

This is why statistics are not how you judge a football team. They can be used to spin many different narratives. I have no idea what will come on Saturday. The Cats have a really good football team this year, on both sides of the ball. So do the Griz, though, and giving up some passing yards doesn't change that.

I spit out my coffee when you mentioned Bleskin... that was an epic showing

If you can’t or won’t predict a Griz victory, you are a bad fan.
