I take it back. It wasn't a "great" crowd. It was just "good."

It will be great once we give Player Rep's seat back to the students, so they can do some proper razzing of the refs. Player Rep can join me on Level 2. Still great seats.

Nope, it was a great crowd. Maybe you should join me in row 1, and meet some of the people who join me and me family from time to time.

the remodel and the Kennedy coaching fiasco nearly killed Grizzly BB....we got a long way to go to recapture the magic of the past zoo..

I know things are as they are, but dang, I'd sure like to see the students on side court. It is the University of Montana Grizzlies after all...and the UM students should be the primary focus. I loved the days of the dash to get seats in the student section -- typically 3 or 4 rows up and close to center court. Showing up at 4 or so to have a shot at those seats was just part of the deal. As one of the "old fat guys" now, I think it only right that I would sit up and away a little and leave the student section to the students. Although the administration probably doesn't share my view, I'd love to hear about students camping out on Friday (or even Thursday as happens at some schools) night in order to get good seats in the Zoo. To me, the whole object of home games is to create an atmosphere of excitement, controlled (as much as possible) chaos and student involvement. The great thing about venues like Cameron at Duke is that a decent sized facility becomes a small, sweaty, packed gym.

a long way to go to recapture the magic? we had a pretty magical year so far...hosting the conf tourney...and if we win that a good shot to make a 4 or 5 seeds opening thursday or friday a living hell....all that with the students behind the basket, and most homegames only a hand full of students....maybe if everybody just went batshit crazy all game instead of complane about the seating we would have an enviorment to behold. I never miss a game, and i bring my football fan mentality to every game...if everybody does that, there is your atmosphere. With all that said, it would be nice if students were courtside...but its not an excuse for us not to be rowdy as hell...and when it all comes down to it we have a GREAT team..been an awesome year

I also think that the students would have a better shot at courtside if they showed the powers that be they have what it takes to show up on a consistant basis. What if they give them the courtside seats back and they continue to show up in 3 groups of 7? 21 wild students courtside doesnt quite seem that wild. There were for sure a hand full of games ( every game except hawaii, msu and weebs) where the band nearly outnumbered the students....i think that if all year the students were under the bucket, PACKED and going WILD....there would be a better shot cuz right now, the university has to feel they would be risking having games with 35 people courtside

Agreed again.
glad somebody does, i pry offended half the poeple on here by even saying a word in this thread that isnt in some way saying "put the students courtside right now!!!"

maybe for just the last week of the season we can not worry about how its not like was back in the late 70s but we can just make that place as wild as humanly possiable this comming tuesday and wed! Lets do it griz nation! it will be easy, just bring ur football attitude as u walk through that tunnel into ur section..jump up and smack the fnk concrete if you need too.

Nailed it. Everybody brings up Duke, Duke look at Duke. Well it's really easy in Duke since they win 25 games a year!!! Ever seen the student section at a Duke football game? So win 20 games a year, have sucess in the big dance for 10-15 years like the football team did and you'll have wild crowds. Other than Cat/Griz you don't hear much about the 70's wild ride crowd in Football.

Well well, look what the Cats dragged in! How's the food been a Warm Springs? Are bowel movements still scheduled or random? Do you have to pay for your diapers, or are they provided by the men in the white coats?

Cameron IS a small, sweaty packed gym. There are high school gyms bigger than that place. It is a great atmosphere though.

Okay, we will call that a great crowd. It certainly is a great crowd when compared to games during the past 19 years. 1992 really is the last season where the crowds and the environment was at its' best. Environment started to decline since that year. And it was the last year of the quarter system.

but, it still doesn't match the environment back in 70s and 80s. Of course, I don't think anybody has claimed that yet.

As for moving the students back to the east lower level, they should move them there. Doesnt' have to be the entire east lower level. maybe sections 110 and 111, along with behind the basket where they were. I sit in section 109 so they can't take that seat from me, ha ha.

Of course if they did move the students to where they were before, they would have to remove the current seats and then remove some rows out. Don't want any body in the higher level complaining about not being able to see the game because of the students standing up. That is what they did in early 80s (1980 or 81). east level B fans bitched and moaned and so they took a row or two out so that the students would be lower.

When I was back in Missoula and attending every home game, I often sat in the 1st level seats. I admit I love being that close to the game, but the environment was not fun at all. I am really avid and intense when it comes to GRIZ Basketball, and football. I would try getting chants going. I would stomp feet, and few would follow suit. I would ride the referees. I would encourage the team, and do everything I expect in a a good college basketball environment.

I admit there were some others trying, here and there, now and then, etc. It really pissed me off being told to sit down, be quiet (yet not cursing, or being disrespectful, and get dirty looks from fans (seat warmers, in this case), ranging from late 20's to early 80's, that all they would do is "NOTHING", but bitch!!! It was not only me they bitched at, but the few others trying to liven it up for our team.

I don't care who you are, or how much money you contribute, myself, or any fan have every bit the right to be loud, proud, and crazy at GRIZ games (basketball, and football) as you do to do "nothing".

To those that do nothing, and prefer a library environment, you have the right be attending, but no right to dictate, and/or bitch about things to please you.

Seriously, I wish it were possible to have dedicated sitting areas based on what kind of fans you want to be part of. It is amazing how the different fan types cannot agree, and get along. That goes for basketball, and football. Honestly, it takes away from the experience.

Part of lose of interest is losing Idaho and Boise St and Nevada. I know we lost Nevada in the 80's. But we replaced those teams with Sac St., Portland St and NCU. The level of teams we play are not as good plus lose of Rivalry games. The program is as good as I can remember but the rivals are gone and the passion is gone too

Nevada left early 90s. But most of what you said is true.

I would love to see the students court-side, and I think that's where they belong. But I honestly think it has less to do with money and more to do with the fact that students are essentially gone or MIA 6 weeks of the BB season if you include finals week. That's a lotta empty seats for a lotta games.

And there are many roudy facilities where the students are on the end-lines. It is what it is. Make the most of it, show up and get loud.
Bingo! How does the administration justify reserving a significant portion of the best seats for a student body that is on campus for only half the season. The change from quarters to semesters is a huge factor.

I attended UM from 02-06 and didn't miss one game in my four years. However during the break they would sell GA tickets in the student section. I remember standing with a handfull of other students in the front row of the south platform at games during the break and getting yelled at by people that had purchased tickets and were sitting behind us. We utterly refused to sit or move, and people finally gave in and moved but not after plenty of rude comments. It wasn't a very inviting environment to lure students to the games. I think the location of the seats is less important than creating an inviting atmospher for the students. Plenty of other schools have good student sections on the baselines.

On a seperate note, Jan Krystkowiak ALWAYS had our back and would protect us from the "fun police" at the Adams Center. She helped some of us get away with more than we would have otherwise would have been able to! Don't mess with Mrs. K!

I really think some use the students not being courtside as an excuse. I remember reading one post that said i never get season tickets but would if the students were moved back to courtside. Why on earth should that be the deciding factor? I like ur comment about the location of the student seats...its spot on
