Yeah Playa, you worry about your blue-blooded buddies whose wide asses occupy those preferred seats. They are mostly comatose, and their idea of making noise is farting during a time-out.

If the ZOO returned in force every game, the rest of the arena would be full too, due to the increased excitement level. So, the program would actually make MORE REVENUE if the ZOO was given the court-side seats.

FINALLY, something you DO know about

Cute, but wrong. Tell you what, since you're feelin' pretty squirrely. I've got $100 that says I weigh less than you do. I've got another $100 that says I am 5 feet 9.5 inches tall, contrary to the shorty B.S. that Jizzpacker1 tries to spew. I weigh 180. I wear a size 34 waste. My ass is not big. Wanna play?
Don't confuse pant size with being a big ass

The area where I sit is critical to the team's success because it contains the people who help straigten out the refs when they're making bad calls. Note how we were able to straighten out the ref with lighter hair last night. He made some nice calls in our favor in the second half, but we had to work on him earlier in the game. We got some help from a young girl who talked to this ref during a timeout too.

Oh my Gawd! I've heard it all now from you, dude! Now you think that you actually have influence over BB officials??? Maybe you could become a special consultant to the Pope, or re-vamp the space program! Hell, don't stop there, I hear God needs some help these days! Your sense of self-importance is surpassed only by your arrogance in actually writing about it in a post. :thumb:

As a former official, I can assure that they were laughing at your comments, and thought that you were a typical homer blow-hard. Officials pay ZERO attention to idiots in the stands like you.
I think he just sucked you into his attempt to be sarcastic...or, I hope he isn't serious..otherwise I would advise some therapy.

Well Wildman4, I hear you're so fat, that you can take your blood pressure visually. Oh, and one more thing..... please GFY!

I am now a fat old person but would still never ask the students to sit down. :)

Holy shit what a great nostalgic clip. We have a student telling people to go home & watch The Dukes of Hazard & a picture of Derek Selvig's mom as a Lady Griz.

Also love this quote "It's not the student/hyphen/fat old people's section".

Bottom line, the end of this debate on seating is, What is best for the program? As a coach, and player, Whatever creates the best "college" basketball environment is what needs to be done!!!

Sorry if I am offending boosters, or snobs with money, but unless the majority of you taking those sideline seats are willing to get "loud", and get off your asses for our team, the students are the only choice!!

If I am a coach, those students make the most impact on the environment on the sidelines, riding referees, getting under the opponents skin, encouraging the team, etc, a whole game. As it is now, they can only impact the game 1/2 the time, when our opponents are on that end of the court. I also would want the students on those sidelines when I bring in recruits!!!! Environments helps sell recruits, no matter where a recruit is from. That could have helped keep Riley Bradshaw in Montana. If I recall correctly, he was sold on Utah State's environment/atmosphere!!! It sells almost all our football recruits.

As a fan, I understand, students and environments are what make college basketball unique. The NBA mentality of $$$$ talks does not work in college basketball. If you want that, please go buy NBA courtside tickets.

Also, in my opinion, if you are bitching about not having sideline seats, for your own purposes, it is damn selfish of you. Funny part is, how many of the current sideline ticket holders have preached to their own kids about not being selfish?

For the sake of this program, whoever is sitting in those seats, it needs to be an expectation that those seats are for those that can bring it!!! Just like our NEZ diehards bring it!! That is an expectation for any GRIZ fan sitting in those seats, or it used to be, at least.

I do agree, if the atmosphere/environment is consistently good, and the teams are good, attendance is what it needs to be, meaning more money coming in anyway.

As for the student breaks, the schools with the best environments have those breaks too, and keep the atmosphere going. It is high time the powers to be do what is best for the program, not what is best to do for the ass kissers!

Maybe the best thing to do is to re-align the court to its' original east-west layout - then you don't have to move the students, and presto, they have sideline seats again.

When did they switch the court direction? The earliest Griz games I remember attending were the early 80's when Derrick Pope, Rob Hurley and Marc Glass were the studs and it was a North South court then also.

Pretty sure it was during the remodel of '98-99.

No way. The court was north south in the early 80's just like it is now.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to agree with Growly.

As great as the crowd was last night, it could have been better! Tinkle had to urge the crowd on, at several key moments, to get off their asses and make some noise. And people responded pretty well, but they didn't really sustain it.

It's like people have forgotten how to act at basketball games, like they no longer remember how to help the team. Maybe they just need more alcohol, I don't know.

Nah, they just need the students back at courtside, to show 'em how it's done.
The crowd seemed very subdued until Tinkle got them going...at least that is how it sounded and looked on Big Sky Tv..granted that is hardly the best.

The crowd was into it and loud the whole game. Never subdued. Tinkle did help increase the noise on every defensive side of the court later in the game, when the defense needed to keep making stops. Great crowd.

Thx LA. Just out of curiosity, did anyone other than G1 think my post was intended to be serious?

G1, you were right about a ref laughing at one comment of mine. Near the end of the game, I said to him, to his back, that he had done a nice job, and we wanted him to come back next week. We could all see him laugh, even tho he was facing away from him.

 I couldn't agree more! I sure that Tinkle would love for the students to be back sitting on the court-side seats!

What would it take (what can we do) to help get the administration to put the students back in the court seats for Tuesday and Wednesday night's game if we make it there? I remember the administration put the students back in those seats a few years ago for the semi-final game against MSU. Haven't been back since...

The crowd last night was better than most of the crowds from back in the Zoo days (in the decade or so I was in attendance at various games), in my opinion.

Sorry dude, but the older I get, the louder we were.

Yeah, I've lived in Seattle for 20 years and have been to quite a few games in Husky Stadium, the Kingdome and Seahawk Stadium, Key Arena, and Safeco Field. There have been some loud games but none approached the energy and loudness we had back then. Nothing even close.

The Zoo were the ones that were always trying to get the rest of the crowd into it. Alot of times back in the day most of the crowd was just as comatose as they are now, they just needed the Zoo to get them off their asses. It's like Tinkle has had to take on the role of coach and Zoomeister.

Jamie McCann (mentioned in the PDF linked in my post on the first page) would wait for the cheeleaders to start a cheer. Then we would start a completely different one - that was still in their repertoire - and soon the entire building was doing the one he started and not theirs. Still hilarious thinking back to the looks of annoyance on the cheerleaders faces as they switched dance routines mid stream to they could be in synch with the crowd. Best times ever.

They were going to move it back in the last remodel but ran out of money.

I have never seen such a pathetic band of bandwagon fools like this bunch. You couldn't care less all year. Now that they are good, you are a Big fan? The student section has been a complete joke! The football players only show up when they get recognized, and they provided NO intimidation factor. Most sit in the second level. Besides Alex Shaw you clowns should be ashamed. You make NO presence. There was 12 ppl in the student section just 5 games ago. You guys make me sick. The Zoo went well into the early 90's, btw.

A little late weighing in on this but zirg makes a few points here. Mainly though "The ZOO" is not back. It's made a brief apperance but by no means is it back. For it to be "back" lets see a few seasons of the similar commitment we saw the other night, then you can say it's back.

I would say though, while I'm not as regular of an attendee as I'd have liked in the 7 or 8 home games I've been to I've usually seen probably 15 or more football players there, they're just not as animated as Alex Shaw has been over the course of the last two games. Yes, the team hasn't been there as much as they were the last two, but they have shown pretty good support overall.

You don't even need to go back 5 games to find a lack of overall student invovlement, the Hawai'i game I think didn't even fill the lower section.

-----

Overall it's a good thing that the students came out en masse for the last two games, it really helped the atmosphere. Hopefully they continue to do that for the tourney next week as well. But to say anything resembling the 70s/80s/early 90s of the Zoo is "back"... that's way too quick of a statement.

I agree there will need to be consistent group of crazy students for a few years to be classified as the Zoo 2.

Some of the things we did during my time in the Zoo (78 - 82) wouldn't be dreamed of by the current "Zoo" class. I mean when the Idaho team was announced we "rolled" potatoes on the court and one time after a Vandal flipped off the crowd we pelted them with potatoes. I real hail storm of potatoes. When the gates opened there was a rush to get the best seats for any game not just the big games.

It was things like this that made the Zoo.

I take it back. It wasn't a "great" crowd. It was just "good."

It will be great once we give Player Rep's seat back to the students, so they can do some proper razzing of the refs. Player Rep can join me on Level 2. Still great seats.
