Why would they pay the big bucks for an FCS level candidate? That takes away from the NRA donation fund.

You've never been to Missoula, apparently.

I go to Montana several times a year. My whole family are Griz. And gun loving rednecks :thumb:

How did they go wrong with you?

UM is offering the new coach 162k base? Where did you see that?

You think they are offering more? Bobby Hauck was practically the god-coach at UM and only paid 145k
Mick makes 162k base. Between incentives, media contract, camp and apparel money youre looking at over 200k. Only at a directional commuter school would they consider that lateral compensation. [emoji6]

Absolutely. They know it's not a lateral move. It would be a huge step up for Baldwin. That said, I hope he's not the guy. As you noted earlier, I don't know how he would stack up without the problem kids and non-qualifiers. Too much uncertainty there.

They didn't go wrong, which is why I go to Missoula every year.

Guys, I'm just trolling. It's okay, lighten up.

Perhaps his bio-father was a Christian father and many of his true family are step-family?

:thumb: Me too. But I honestly think it would be an enticing offer for your guy. He doesn't need to go anywhere. A few more seasons like this, and he'll get an FBS deal for 750k+.

I have to say, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOARD THIS WEEK. 99 percent of the threads are about US and not about the Bobcats. And for the very most part, ILTC is about the only MSU poster,. INVADING every thread trying to drum up smack talk that isn't there. Isn't this back to how WE used to do it? I mean honestly ILTC, you're trying wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too hard to drum up Cat-Griz rivalry smack, and you're doing it in threads, i.e coaching thread and threads about new facilites. Those things have NOTHING to do with Saturday's game, and honestly dude, you're starting to look desperate trolling for smack in these threads. By all means, throw the smack out in the threads that have AT LEAST something to do with the GAME, but geez man, you're really reaching.

Conversely, this is how WE USED TO DO IT. Yes, we're excited about the Brawl, yes we have no love for the Bobcats, but we as fans got so accustomed to not engaging in the meaningless smack, or being offended by look-alike threads or the burning of teddy bears. WE as fans USED to just kind of think that stuff was beneath us. I have MISSED those days. Kind of like when Peter Christian intentionally doesn't announce Bobcat scores dui]ring the five home games that the Griz don't play MSU. Why did he do that? Because the fanbase really doesn't care what the Cats are doing. While on the other side of the divide, they STILL CHANT ESGGCG when they are playing friggin' Idaho State on SENIOR DAY!! Honestly, I have missed these days, and I commend Egriz this week, because it seems like, for the most part, we haven't got sucked into the smack, at least in threads like this, that HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME OR THE MONTANA STATE BOBCATS. Well done Egrizzers :thumb:

EDIT: Oh by the way, just so ILTC doesn't think I fell for the bait, I think Montana State is a very, very good football team. I think Dakota Prukop is HELL OF A FOOTBALL PLAYER, and I think Rob Ash is an extremely good football coach. Other Griz fans might not agree with me, especailly on this week, but I have no problem admitting those things. Saturday is going to be one hell of a scary game. But honestly, as a FAN, I wouldn't have it any other way.[/quote/]
I think thw reason is because for the first time in a while win or lose we have a lot to be excited about. A new coach not a babysitter and some awesome facility upgrades.

Hauck's starting base salary was not $105k. The base hasn't been that low in 19 years.

Between salary, incentives, radio/media deal - the new coach will make plenty for living in Montana (likely close to $250K or more with playoff appearances and a possible NC). More than any other BSC school - plus they will have new facilities within three years, the best stadium in FCS, many Griz that played/are playing in the NFL - which assists in recruiting, and plenty of media coverage if they go deep into the playoffs. The real question for me is how Haslam sells this.

1. Is the administration trying to get a coach by building a story that the program will be eventually moving up to FBS? (the salary would also move up)

2. If the Griz do not move up, then how long can the administration plan of having a coach stay on if they are successful?

My fear is the Griz could be stuck in the constant coaching carousel they have experienced for the past decade. May not be a problem if they continue to find talented coaches with similar systems. If that is the case - then I hope they go for coaches who do not have the ground and pound mentality Hauck possessed. I would like to see an aggressive offensive system. Something like MSU or EWU currently has, but we should be able to recruit more talented athletes and students. (EWU has done a damn good job of recruiting lately).
