The Unbalanced Road to the ‘23 BSC Championship

Oh boy. Cats return loads and loads of talent including pretty much the entire offense. Cats also get to enjoy a long playoff run that continues to develop more and more depth via extended practices and valuable game reps. griz are done playing now, lose a bunch of players, yet they're gonna go 10-1, Cats 7-4, AND the griz are gonna beat the Cats next year after that brutal ass whipping a few weeks ago?

You guys are so precious! Congrats on the pre season chipper again, this one came pretty early this year!
Ok, couple things for you. Yes I will agree that you guys are going to be very good next year short of Vigen leaving this offseason which I don't see happening cause there's just not a ton of openings on the west. I will say though there are some things you guys need to address in the offseason to really feel good about getting through that road schedule 5-0. The first is you need to address the defense. Outside of about 3 games this year, I don't think your defense has been all that impressive, and the losses of O'Reilly and Manning will be big for you guys. So far it hasn't mattered because you've been able to outscore just about anyone else you've played, but will that be the case against SDSU in the semis? I guess we'll see.

Plus there's also the possibility of some guys transferring. I'm just gonna randomly pick a name here, but what if Elijah Elliott or Sean Chambers or one of your line men chose to move up? Yes you have great depth, but losing a guy like Chambers or Cole Sain would be a big hit. Losing multiple guys would really test your depth and may result in a possible step back unless you dip into the portal.

You mention more game reps for your depth, at this point I think you're far enough into the playoffs that those guys aren't getting on the field. You got pretty serious opponents from here on out that they're probably not gonna see the field much. Sure they'll get to practice, but as Bobby and Vigen have both alluded to when you get to this time of year, practice is ineffective and almost a waste of time if you can't do it inside.

And finally, I guarantee you regardless of how good you guys are next year, you're not going 5-0 on the road, especially since your bye week is 3 weeks earlier next year. If you guys beat SDSU in Brookings next season, my jaw will drop to the floor. Plus that 2 game road trip to Sac and Idaho is gonna be tough. And the Brawl will always be a tossup regardless of records, and it helps that it's in Missoula. We'll see how it goes!

Still pre-season national champs, but also becoming pre-season undefeated.

William & Mary is good. My friend is the AD. They aren't going to be a pushover.

Well if your friend is the AD that totally changes things. Wish you would have made me privy to this info a few days ago.

I’ll bet you $268 we win Friday. And not to some pissy charity. Straight cash. If I win I want nine 20’s, five 10’s, six 5’s, four 1’s and four silver dollars.

And again, none of this charity bullshit.

Also I’m fully aware that you’ll post tens of times all over threads and not respond to this one. I get it.

But if you want to bet, I can assure you it will be all for cash ourselves and certainly not to some scumbag charity.

Like Toys for Tots………….

The Griz
Oct 7 @ UC Davis W
Oct 14 @ Idaho L
Nov 4 vs Sac St W
Nov 18 vs the scats W
That leaves The Griz with the 3rd easiest path to a con championship.
Potential Trap: Nov 11 @ Port St W
This road game to a probably rainy Portland(or Hillsboro or wherever the hell they play their games next year) will be squished in between two home games vs the defending co-con champions.
Other notables
none
Remaining schedule
Sept 2 vs Butler(Pioneer) W
Sept 9 @ Utah Tech(WAC) W
Sept 16 vs Ferris St(D2) W
Sept 23 @ NAU W
Sept 30 vs Idaho St W
Oct 21 bye
Oct 28 vs UNC W
Record guess/con rank: 10-1(7-1)/T1st

Griz will start out 5-0 again, then lose to Idaho, UCD and the Scats, finish 5-3 in conference. Best case scenario. Only saving grace is Sac is in full rebuild mode on offense and NAU lost their all-everything QB to the portal. UNC with Ed Lamb at the helm ain’t gonna be a pushover either.

This aged well....W&M were not good....and were a push over. Your friend's team was embarrassed by MSU Just like your other friend Bobby's team was. Starting to really question your ability to see what a good team looks like. Hint: they are not good just because people you like say they are.

True. All of it.

But you'd have to admit that when it comes to name dropping, travel logs and food blogs on wonderful trips to Germany and Montana kids making good on NFL Cheer Squads, he's got it covered like a blanket.

I hope we buy out the D2 game for another D1 game. Going forward we need to be playing all FCS opponents IMO

There is no reason not to play an all Division I schedule... the AD needs to step it up and department needs to work all contacts and make sure this doesn't happen in the future. Go schedule Pioneer League teams, IVY, whoever will count towards the necessary 7 Division I wins to be considered for playoff consideration. Playing a Division II or Frontier does not help the team.

I agree that the OP is excessively optimistic. There is no way either the Cats finish 7-4 or the Griz finish 10-1. It just ain’t happening. That being said, I’d expect a pissed off Griz team next November. This year’s brawl is now anger fuel. Honestly with Griz/Cat it’s always a toss-up.

I think the Cats will either be 9-1 or 10-0 coming into the brawl. The Griz? I have no feckin clue. 9-1 or 8-2 sounds realistic barring some sort portal, health, or other craziness.

Cheers! Good luck in the Semi’s. I feel sick 🤢

These road trips are gonna be hard on y’all. The Griz and Weber will be hungry for revenge and Sac will be motivated to show that they coulda beat you last year too. Y’all needed a game winning FG to beat NAU on the road this year so don’t act like y’all are road warriors. You guys definitely have the tuffest path to repeat as co-con champions.

I hear what you're saying, I just think you're under estimating how good the Cats are, and are pretty much returning all key players next year. Being on the road matters less when they can't stop the run and dictate the game. Also NAU was interesting in that the OC called so many pass plays and took the Cats out of their run game. That won't happen again.
What happened at EWU to make that such a nail-biter?

Of course they're not good!

I learned a long time ago that teams are only really good and going to beat the Cats before the game happens. Once the game happens and the Cats win, then the team is a pushover. It happened with Weber, than UM, then Weber again, and now W&M.

My guess is we'll hear the same thing about SDSU if we pull out a win on Saturday. If we happen to lose, we're basically the same team as UM because we'll have only won ONE more playoff than you guys did.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. :thumb:

W & M was not good, particularly the QB, who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. They were particularly not good with the weather and elevation and just wanted to get into a warm plane headed home. The home field advantage of all time.

Methinks you beat SDSU, but then there's NDSU and you know how that goes.

I agree that my Wildcats have the best path to be BSC champs next year. It's a little up in the air right now, due to Jay Hill's leaving us for a million bucks(Who could blame him). If, in this process, we keep all of our coordinators, then, yes, I think we will be right there at the end. Our top two QBs have entered the Portal, so that also becomes a question. However, we do have three 3* QBs in the pipeline and the majority of the rest of our starters coming back. We should have a new coach within the next week. I may be able to give a better forecast late next week, after the early singing period.

Is the consensus that you guys are gonna give the job to somebody on staff already, or are they actually giving consideration to an external candidate?

We have 4 strong coordinator prospects that are close to the program, 3 on the current staff. The job is wide open, but someone would need to be head and shoulders above those four to be considered for the job. They will stop taking resumes on the 21st and I expect them to act swiftly after that. The interim HC is Mickey Mental and all of our coaches are out on the recruiting trails now. Like I said, if we keep all of our coordinators, we should be a better club next year.

After every griz loss this year, there were always several posts about pissed off bears, bear backed into a corner, don't piss of a grizzly.... but the five losses just kept on coming. So maybe your griz need to play less pissed off, and just better?

Also - griz/Cat sounds fuhgging retarded.... just fyi.

Sorry dude, I was mainly just trying to be funny with the "don't piss off a grizzly" thing because it kept coming up after every loss. My bad - I'll try to do better about rubbing it in, I try to only do that when posters start ripping on the Cats... or make excuses for why Cats are better right now.

As for the Griz\cat thing, I have no idea where it started but it really does sound lame! Like Navy-Army or jelly and peanut butter! Keep using it if you want though, but it just sounds dumb. When I hear people say it, I have the same reaction as when I hear people say I seen, I been, I done..... (Which yes, I get it, there are a lot of those people that post on this site too)
