The Unbalanced Road to the ‘23 BSC Championship

Holy crap, dude. Why the need to pile on? Hell, I just wished your team luck! My god… why don’t you just FRO already.

Sorry dude, I was mainly just trying to be funny with the "don't piss off a grizzly" thing because it kept coming up after every loss. My bad - I'll try to do better about rubbing it in, I try to only do that when posters start ripping on the Cats... or make excuses for why Cats are better right now.

As for the Griz\cat thing, I have no idea where it started but it really does sound lame! Like Navy-Army or jelly and peanut butter! Keep using it if you want though, but it just sounds dumb. When I hear people say it, I have the same reaction as when I hear people say I seen, I been, I done..... (Which yes, I get it, there are a lot of those people that post on this site too)

Griz/cat got drilled into my head. I was a frosh in the Joe Glenn era and that was what was used. All the guys I hung out with did as well. Became habit. Cat/Griz is like nails in a chalkboard to me :D

Football is a game of emotion. Being angry helps. Being able to control it is another matter. Emotion can get a team over a hump. It can be motivating. But ultimately it can’t rule you. Watching the Griz play on the back half of the season, the execution errors, the frustration, it was clear they were playing with a ton of emotion. They just let it rule them (schematic issues and play calling aside). SEMO showed what you can do if you get it under control. The Brawl this year (besides a LOT of other things) showed what happens when you don’t. Same with Idaho, Sac, Weebs, and NDSU.

It’s not an excuse. The Griz got thoroughly manhandled multiple times this year. That’s on a lot of things. But losing focus and discipline because emotions are getting the better of you has to have played a role. As mush as people make fun of folks with -ology degrees, the psychology of competition has to be a factor. I wonder what grizpsych has to say about that…

Of course they're not good!

I learned a long time ago that teams are only really good and going to beat the Cats before the game happens. Once the game happens and the Cats win, then the team is a pushover. It happened with Weber, than UM, then Weber again, and now W&M.

My guess is we'll hear the same thing about SDSU if we pull out a win on Saturday. If we happen to lose, we're basically the same team as UM because we'll have only won ONE more playoff than you guys did.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. :thumb:
W & M was not good, particularly the QB, who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. They were particularly not good with the weather and elevation and just wanted to get into a warm plane headed home. The home field advantage of all time.

Methinks you beat SDSU, but then there's NDSU and you know how that goes.
I didn’t think they were as good as the Cats for sure. I predicted we’d win by 25. Didn’t expect to win by 50.

I hope we get past SDSU. They’re a great team. But I like our chances.

I hope this years team gets a crack at this years NDSU squad. They’ve had our number. Can’t seem to get over the hump. But I think this years Cats team is the best I’ve seen if we match up with them again. If we get there, and lose, we know there’s still work to do.

Or we’ll just blame the loss on one of our players being injured…..

Ok, couple things for you. Yes I will agree that you guys are going to be very good next year short of Vigen leaving this offseason which I don't see happening cause there's just not a ton of openings on the west. I will say though there are some things you guys need to address in the offseason to really feel good about getting through that road schedule 5-0. The first is you need to address the defense. Outside of about 3 games this year, I don't think your defense has been all that impressive, and the losses of O'Reilly and Manning will be big for you guys. So far it hasn't mattered because you've been able to outscore just about anyone else you've played, but will that be the case against SDSU in the semis? I guess we'll see.

Plus there's also the possibility of some guys transferring. I'm just gonna randomly pick a name here, but what if Elijah Elliott or Sean Chambers or one of your line men chose to move up? Yes you have great depth, but losing a guy like Chambers or Cole Sain would be a big hit. Losing multiple guys would really test your depth and may result in a possible step back unless you dip into the portal.

You mention more game reps for your depth, at this point I think you're far enough into the playoffs that those guys aren't getting on the field. You got pretty serious opponents from here on out that they're probably not gonna see the field much. Sure they'll get to practice, but as Bobby and Vigen have both alluded to when you get to this time of year, practice is ineffective and almost a waste of time if you can't do it inside.

And finally, I guarantee you regardless of how good you guys are next year, you're not going 5-0 on the road, especially since your bye week is 3 weeks earlier next year. If you guys beat SDSU in Brookings next season, my jaw will drop to the floor. Plus that 2 game road trip to Sac and Idaho is gonna be tough. And the Brawl will always be a tossup regardless of records, and it helps that it's in Missoula. We'll see how it goes!

Still pre-season national champs, but also becoming pre-season undefeated.

William & Mary is good. My friend is the AD. They aren't going to be a pushover.
That one was obviously too close for comfort. Friend AD and all I can see why you ignored my post.

This weekend is way more favorable for you. SDSU is very good. Any interest in a bet?

I’d like to once again say if you accept the bet, which I know you’ll ignore, I’d like the winnings to go to charity. I know you hate that.

If you accept this bet I’d like to propose the loser donates $300 to toys for tots.

I get cats. You get rabbits. Loser does the right thing…..

Cats beat SDSU, Cats peaking, SDSU overrated because they beat NDSU. Couldn't do it again. I see a rematch in Frisco. I can't favor MSU in that one; way too much history to overcome there.

I don’t buy into the history bit. If they beat us this year it’s because they’re better. Can’t see how previous matchups make a difference. I don’t get caught up in the history stuff like some do.

All that said, I do appreciate you saying SDSU is overrated BEFORE we play them! I strongly disagree but usually this board waits until after the Cats win to say how bad a team is. I respect that.

I think SDSU is very good. I just happen to think the Cats are also very good.

IDK how Weber replaces Jay Hill if I'm being brutally honest. I don't think they're ever gonna be the same.

We didn't know how the 'Scats were going to replace Choade either. How's that worked out for us?

Msu is a better program to take over. Weber lucked out with Hill, I predict their downfall. Sac St might tank too but not as bad

Andy Thompsons got a big project on his hands next year. He did land USD QB Carson Camp today but they got a lot of holes to fill. I agree about Weber as well. BSC will look drastically different next year!

I'm betting Camp will regret having to come back to UM next season, most likely for a cold weather night game next November 4th. Guess we will see.
