the tres factor

oregon state is saying all the right things about tinks--winner, great stature, high character, family man, perfect fit for the small-town corvallis culture. but we here all knew that the tinks/tres package would be an attractive one someday for some bigger school, so let's look at...the rest of the package.

--tres is 6'6" and 180, but we all know he'll get taller and stronger at the college level. if he grows to 6'9" with all his skills, you will have one phenom of a player.
--he's a three-star recruit (124th in the country) but we all know montana kids get knocked down a star or two, so figure tres is really in the very top echelons of the 2015 class.
--the minute he steps foot on a basketball floor in oregon, he becomes that state's best high school basketball player, the likely gatorade player of the year.
--if he becomes a mcdonald's all-american (and i believe that's likely) he would be only the second oregon state recruit to achieve that feat in 32 years.
--only two teams have ever won a national basketball championship without a mcdonalds all american on their roster.

let's just say, that oregon state a.d. is tres smart. and for us montana basketball fans, dreaming of yet another fabulous frosh class, let us repeat yet again the old refrain about kids: you raise 'em to leave 'em.

The story line that could develop over the next 6 years is so intriguing. The upside may be something all fans will someday relish. The risks of 2 careers will be there everyday if they decide to team up. It doesn't have to have any perfect endings and yet the time they may spend together will be "enough" to be only understood by these 2 men for the rest of their lives. It is a great deal to ask of two individuals when so much is at stake in the eyes of the "sports fan". One young and developing on every level of maturity. One seasoned and faced with the opportunity most coaches only imagine. Stayed tuned and stay positive....

Worked well for Creighton.

I am sure the Tinkle's will consult the McDermott's. The McDermott's handled the situation as well as could be handled on family, local, and national level as well as anyone can. :thumb:

It worked with McDermott, because the son was the best player in college basketball. It's a bit different when your son is competing for playing time against other players.

I don't think it's automatic for Tres to join his Dad at OSU. I would be surprised if he signed with any other PAC12 school though. They are close and I don't think they would want to compete against each other.

Tres will have many options next fall to pick from.

All speculation on my part of course.

I've heard that Tinkle would like to coach his son in college. Tres is much bigger than 6'6", 180. 6'7" or 6'8", and well over 200. Tres was at a Pac-12 school last weekend (not Oregon St).

Missoulian Prep Sports says Tres has also heard from USC and Boston College...

I think he has offers from both of those schools, as well as Utah. I just saw him listed as 6'7", 215 in some article. That's more inline with what I had heard.

If he plays for his dad:
Has the "Green Light" for 3 years while program is rebuilding,
Plays decent defense,
Rebounds like a normal 6'8" player in the PAC 12,
Gets a little mean like his dad and kysko both did,
He will make Adam Morrison look like a graduate of the "Little Sisters of the Poor",
And have a nice shot at the NBA with 2,3, and 4 capabilities.
