So, let's talk about the future...coaching staff and recruiting...

Has Bob Stitt done enough at the University of Montana to:

1. Coach next season? Working for a contract.
2. Earn a one-year extension to see if he can pull it together?
3. Earn a full three-year extension to double down and give him some space to build?

Last year, we had one of the best recruiting classes in the FCS. Will Stitt replicate that this year?

Would a coach keep a player in who repeatedly fumbles? How many chances does a coach get?

I'm not a fan of "doubling down" on failure. Doesn't work in business, rarely works in sports.

The sun still isn't quite up yet.....

I think based on his recruiting class last year you give him another two years. When Stitt overhauls the team like he did after last year could you expect a stellar outcome? See what he does the next two.

I guess I didn't see any fumbles yesterday. Or is this referring to earlier games? Or metaphorically fumbling?

With over 40 recruits we should've had one of the best. The good news is this years may top 50, so another good year. Stitt will be here at least 2 more years, even with another mediocre performance.

Moreover, the Grizzly coaching staff was out-witted. Bobcats skipper Jeff Choate hinted at one of Montana's defensive flaws afterwards.

"They have a tendency to play in a lot of two-point stances," he said of the front line. "Pad level is one of the most important fundamentals of football.

"I don’t care how good you are, if you’re going to play in a two-point you’re not going to have great pad level. We were able to hit a lot of our quarterback runs in those situations."

Says so much of what non sugar coaters have said...had better athletes, but outcoached.

This is more a call to action. Maybe next year you fly in Brock Coyle or Tripp or perhaps Cole Bergquist or Colin Dow and have them address the Grizzlies before they walk on the field for the 2017 Brawl of the Wild.
I understood it was a Griz tradition to have a former team star address the team before every Griz-Cat game. Did Stitt drop this?

Cut your losses. This guy is borderline delusional and can't see the writing on the wall. He should do the noble thing and resign and take Semore with him. What a horrible hire!

There is no way that Stitt will not be here next year unless it's his doing, that speculation can be put to bed now and not rehashed a million times the next few months...they will not pay him not to coach.

I don't see an extension coming soon the way the team regressed this year, the team that was on the field the last two weeks was a shell of the team that was on the field the first 6 weeks. I'm not going to say he is coaching for his job next year, but in my opinion he should be. This team has issues with coaching, schemes, and possibly chemistry...a Griz team that plays flat in the Cat/Griz game is a major concern, there just wasn't the normal energy past the first series.

Next year? There should be some improvement from the young guys of which there are many, but until the line play becomes consistent on both sides of the ball we are going to struggle, that has to be priority one. And who is going to run this show...Phillips? How about Jensen, I had a feeling he was the guy Stitt was eyeballing but does he have what it takes? Someone is really going to have to step up and become a leader and show that they can run this offense or we will be struggling to put up 17 points, and you know what that means in this conference.

Hopefully Stitt can have another good recruiting year and picks the right QB, but there are more questions than answers at this point and, not trying to be negative, I have a feeling that we may be in the same boat as we were this week, clawing our way to a playoff berth if we can get there.

Player leadership will be important. The captains this years were high quality, stable men. But it did not appear they provided the fire up the team needed the last half season

I'm not on board with some others on the active "Fire Stitt" train, but this post says a lot that I agree with.

In my humble and uninformed opinion:

1. Yes.
2. Yes, if the team plays well, possibly with a playoff appearance.
3. Yes, only if he gets to #2, and he performs well in year 4. Not a lot of patience here.

The problem is expectations are high yet pay is relativity low. UofM is stuck with this hire, and if it doesn't work out, it will take some time to get back to where the Grizzlies should be.

Honestly, the Grizzlies athletic department as a whole is in a bad spot. If enrollment numbers continue to drop and funding follows course, the AD will eventually have to deal with the losses. Its hard for me to be objective here, as a student in a wallowing and underfunded program, and I just hope something changes in the near future in order to allow the University as whole to grow. Getting beat by MSU in the classroom and on the field/court is getting hard to swallow.

It is an interesting irony that, based on past behavior regarding his slaughter-the-lamb attitude toward players, Stitt would be the first to cut Stitt from the roster.
