The QB will be

How dare Mick Delaney start the 2nd best QB on the team at this point. How dare he give the #1 backup vital time with the first string in a live game. He clearly doesn't understand that this game isn't about depth and using your best players but appeasing the fans for what they want to see in the years ahead.
So you're suggesting that if you took a poll of BSC coaches that stipulated they could have any of these three QBs to run their team for the rest of the year, it would clearly be #1?
#1 SSH
#2 Gustafson
#3 Simis

I don't think so. MD might be the only one voting with you. I'm wondering why young QBs keep coming here when MD keeps the bases clogged with a no-upside incumbent. We have NDSU right out of the gate next year; what better way to compete than with a QB that's been around but without any significant PT.

All we need to do is go back and look at the MSU tape from 2 years ago. THAT'S what we're going to get on Saturday. Better hope our defense can hold CWU to less than 10 points. :? :?

Do you anti-SSH guys believe it is totally mick's decision? Do you not think he and the other coaches as a group decide that plan? Come on get real....that decision is based on a lot of factors and the QB coach/2 OC's are a major factor in that call. This level of coaching (their lively hood is on the line) they don't play little political high school coach games. They play who they feel gives the team the best chance....BASED on hours and hours of seeing the QB's first hand in practices, film, drills, etc.

I've heard that we now actually have switched to a three-person team that makes up the offensive coordination. They call it the triumvirate, borrowing from the ancient Romans. Basically Coach Kefense handles the passing plays, Coach Gragg handles all of the running plays to the left and Coach Green coordinates all the running plays to the right. They reportedly wanted to add a fourth OC but they didn't have enough working headsets after Delaney's handy work last year.

Now that's funny. Ursa you've been on a serious roll lately..

I'm curious to know from all these people where Gus and Simis were supposed to already have their meaningful reps from? People keep saying they keep getting passed over for playing time.

Well let's see: SIMIS RED-SHIRTED LAST YEAR, AND IN 2012 was in HIGH SCHOOL!!!. How the hell has he been screwed by Delaney? LMAO

AS for Gus, he red-shirted in 2012. Are those of you that think he's been passed over for meaningful reps by Delaney suggesting that he should have, could have, played above Trent McKinney and SSH in 2012, when the Griz were still running the spread offense???? Is that what many of you are suggesting, because that would have been the only way he would have got meaningful snaps at QB. As for last year, the Griz had three blowout wins - in one of them Gus played much of the second half, in the others, Shay played the 4th quarter AS A JUNIOR and McKinnney was third string and played against Weber State. I just don't see where Gus and ESPECIALLY Simis have been screwed out of valuable playing experience up to this point.

Secondly, people are being awfully hypocritical in regards to Central Washington. Out of one corner of their mouth, they're suggesting the Griz could defintitley lose this game without JJ, but out of the other corner of their mouth, they're suggesting we should play two QB's, one of whom has never even played a college football game BECAUSE it's a DII opponent. That makes ZERO sense.

This board can't get any more weird. He's second on the depth chart. The starter can't play. I think you usually go to the number 2 in the situation. No? I hope SSH has a great game and proves the haters wrong; but you just know then it will be "Oh sure, but it was against a D2 team."

Who says we won't get the guy who threw for 300+, 3 TDs, and no INTs against NoDak?

Just trying to be optimistic here.

Well, maybe if SSH doesn't produce tomorrow, somebody else will come in. Whatever. I say, play the best guy, no matter how many pins he has on his letterman's jacket. And if that's SSH, so be it. And if not, there all kinds of true freshman starting for very good teams around the country, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

(I don't know about you, but I'm more interested to see Rogers, Logwood and/or Favors on the field tomorrow.)

Sometimes all I can do is stare at the screen in bewilderment.

I'm still in shock that the coaches would opt to play their 2nd best QB on the roster at this time.

You clearly have no clue how depth charts work.

-Coach Ron Ash

Yes we will start the hy-phen Ham-han. We all wish him well.

Yes we want to get 26 points ahead so we can see the #3 and# 4 QB play.

Yes I agree I would love to see Logwood run, among other young guns at various positions.

Yes i think this team can put some points on us and as always we could lose.

No i am not happy but JJ got his bell rung and us non coaches suspected that. Hell this egriz board is on top of it's game!

I secretly am the only egrizer to know just who the best players are. And I will continue to keep it a secret. Unless Delaney askes me....... I will keep it to myself!

See ya all tomorrow.

Well, he may be the slowest Griz quarterback since Brad Lebo. but I wish him good luck against CWU!

Hey! Didn't SSH rush for a TD last year? A 26 yarder or something! :P

Yep I think 26 yards against okpan. If I can remember correctly that run took 3:27 off the clock.

I'm thinking we see the patented naked giraffe bootleg option at least 4 times this game. It's hyphen's signature play.

Here's the thing Kem, you play the best players you've got right now.

If Simis and Gus were better than Shay, RIGHT NOW they'd be ahead of him in the depth. They're not. Both have way more upside, yes. And of course any team would rather have the other two for a longer term plan.

However I would bet that a majority of BSC coaches, if asked, would prefer a 5 year senior QB that fits in the system and has multiple starts under his belt than two unproven underclass men.

I will never understand why Delany keeps putting Smithwick-hann in for JJ and not let some of the younger guys get experience. Smithwick-hann is probably the least talented quarterback I've ever seen at Montana.

Yes, UM lost to Cal State Northridge . . .

WOW! There's a lot of love for SSH. I can't believe some of you guys didn't start a petition to have him removed from the team. What I see is a bunch of people looking to next season and forgetting that this one has barely started. I'm betting that SSH is a TEAM PLAYER because if he weren't he would probably spot CWU 14 points on purpose so he could live up to your standards.
