The QB will be

How dare Mick Delaney start the 2nd best QB on the team at this point. How dare he give the #1 backup vital time with the first string in a live game. He clearly doesn't understand that this game isn't about depth and using your best players but appeasing the fans for what they want to see in the years ahead.

Just curious - who's next year's kicker?

If Shay plays really well, do you guys think there will be a quarterback controversy upon Johnson’s return?

Griz Nation: the only place in the known sporting world where the 2nd string quarterback isn't the most popular player on the team.

Good call! I'm assuming that Gus is 3? Simis 4?

We can't be looking to our current 3rd and 4th stringers... we've got to be looking at high school qb's who could potentially be our next 3rd or 4th stringers!

So you don't believe there is a FCS caliber QB on the roster outside of JJ?

I will never understand why Delany keeps putting Smithwick-hann in for JJ and not let some of the younger guys get experience. Smithwick-hann is probably the least talented quarterback I've ever seen at Montana.

Justin Roper.

I see you Roper and raise you Nate Montana.

The boring meter just moved up seven notches. Figure the Griz to work on the ground game - with a QB that you have to drive stakes to see if he's moving, but makes up for it by throwing rainbows. The defense will keep away the risk of upset and maybe outscore the offense.
    :thumb:

The ONLY reason to watch this game would have been to see our future in Simis or Gustavson. Absent that, I may find something else to do Saturday...

I got 500 on it so I'll be watching for that reason

Well how in the h-e-double hockey sticks are we supposed to know that if Mick insists on playing the 2nd string QB?

I'm thinking we see the patented naked giraffe bootleg option at least 4 times this game. It's hyphen's signature play.

Do you anti-SSH guys believe it is totally mick's decision? Do you not think he and the other coaches as a group decide that plan? Come on get real....that decision is based on a lot of factors and the QB coach/2 OC's are a major factor in that call. This level of coaching (their lively hood is on the line) they don't play little political high school coach games. They play who they feel gives the team the best chance....BASED on hours and hours of seeing the QB's first hand in practices, film, drills, etc.

Good point. Griz fans are so advanced, or spoiled, that it's the 3d or 4th team qb here.

Or has the dad promised to pay for the new turf when it's needed in a few years?

So you're suggesting that if you took a poll of BSC coaches that stipulated they could have any of these three QBs to run their team for the rest of the year, it would clearly be #1?
#1 SSH
#2 Gustafson
#3 Simis

I don't think so. MD might be the only one voting with you. I'm wondering why young QBs keep coming here when MD keeps the bases clogged with a no-upside incumbent. We have NDSU right out of the gate next year; what better way to compete than with a QB that's been around but without any significant PT.
