The QB will be

I will never understand why Delany keeps putting Smithwick-hann in for JJ and not let some of the younger guys get experience. Smithwick-hann is probably the least talented quarterback I've ever seen at Montana.

Justin Roper.

The same guy who was such a shitty QB he spent time in the Arena League, and is now QB coach for Valdosta State...

SSH couldn't hold Roper's jockstrap.

I didn't say Roper was a better overall quarterback while he was at UM but purely on talent level he was far better then SSH. Every time I see SSH play I find myself wondering why he was even recruited there is just nothing about him that's very impressive to me. That being said he has done the best he can with what he has and I'm sure we will win with him Saturday I would just like to see some of these other guys get some playing time.

I don't agree with everything Delaney does, but in this case I'm on his side. SSH is the backup and the only available QB with experience. Starting him makes sense. Once the game is under control we can see what the young'ns have to offer. But why start a QB who has never played at the college level when we don't have too?
There's a reason he's the only one with any experience, because MD won't put the others in to get them any when the opportunity to do so arises. They won't get any experience if we're always afraid of putting them in due to lack of experience. What better game to get them some experience than a DII game?

How dare Mick Delaney start the 2nd best QB on the team at this point. How dare he give the #1 backup vital time with the first string in a live game. He clearly doesn't understand that this game isn't about depth and using your best players but appeasing the fans for what they want to see in the years ahead.

It's the right call since Shay is the back-up and needs reps. Hopefully he gets it together early and often and we see the others get a chance.

Well, it happened. Plenty of you posters speculated on what the outcome of a Griz game would be if JJ was injured. By 4:00 pm tomorrow, speculation becomes fact. Looks like the defense will have to carry the offense. 42 yards rushing. Decent running backs with an offensive line that have shown what they are capable of, which is little. Delaney and staff will have to show what they are capable of as coaches during the game. God help us. The only saving grace is that this is a DII team. But, look at the advantages this opens. You get a glimpse of next year! :puke:

I don't mind SH starting but I hope the others get to play as well. I was just responding to the claim of the other QBs on the roster not having any game time experience. The claim that SH is the 2nd best QB on the roster is debatable. He's definitely the QB with the 2nd most game experience though.

If they wanted a glimpse of next year, they would not start SSH

Sometimes all I can do is stare at the screen in bewilderment.

I'm still in shock that the coaches would opt to play their 2nd best QB on the roster at this time.

Can we please also be pissed that the starting WRs will once again be Jones, Hendu, and Burke. I mean... Come on. Or that the starting linebackers will be KVA, Kose, and Gamboa. Let's see the future, not what we have on the roster right now.

The idea of using Jason Washington is intriguing. He didn't use up all of eligibility. Yes, if we could get him out of jail quickly, we'd then have to get an ncaa waiver very quickly. I think the ncaa loves us, right? There's precedent for someone coming from a few years in jail and playing for us for another year. Who knows, maybe Washington would end up in the NFL. Again, there's precedent. And his family has NFL genes.

On the other hand, I like the idea of getting a glimpse of next year in the 2d game of the year. That's called planning ahead and foresight.

Brint, I think playing the 2d string qb when your starter is hurt, may be as dumb as kicking off in both halves. Of course, maybe this is like the announcement of the stating kicker. You announce the starter one week, and start someone else when the games rolls around. Na, I'm thinking it's going to be S-H. He's had the week to prepare. I think he will play well.

I may have missed it, but who suggested using Jason Washington?

Our offense very well may have lite up the scoreboard at Wyo if JJ hadn't been concussed.
VERY excited to see him healthy...

...in the meantime our second string QB might not sport many fireworks but he has tons of experience and should be able to do his job & lead the Griz to a victory over a solid DII team.

Good Luck Shay, TEAR EM UP!
GO GRIZ
