First, Happy New Year. I hope the Griz enjoy a great season like last year, but steal a win in Bozeman.

With what is going on in college sports it takes a lot to flow with the changes and turn them into advantages. Bobby Hauck has seemed to stay on top of the changing rules and the new world of athletes having agents to negotiate best opportunities for them. Many players have agents looking out for them and finding opportunities that might be better for the players. Add in NIL situations, the portal, young men, personal situations,, kids coming and going via transfer and it can make your head spin.

Keep in mind last year is over. Time to look forward. If you are a fan, let our losses go and work to find ways to support the program. I believe Bobby will bring in transfers at a quality similar or better than those we lose.
We are in good hands.

But it is difficult world to negotiate out there. "The times, they are a changing." We are in good hands. It is a quality program. Most of the time it is a blast to be a fan. I am glad we love the Griz. They are a great common denominator in our Western Montana. They bring us together like no other like nothing else in our area. We have had some great victories. If you step back and look, you have to appreciate our success.

Find a way to assist the program. We all grow with that. Go Griz.

Thanks! Bob Dylan couldn’t have said it better…Ha

I hear we’re getting flag football here…..got that going for us until it also gets fully monetized
The flag football is what some of the posters, and some of the new ones, know and can understand. 5280, 45, Glacier, Handy Andy Dandy, CounterAssault, some of longtime and new Cat trolls, etc.

We don’t have anyone on the team from there this year but it seems like over the past 20 or so years we might have gotten more players from Billings West than any other high school in or outside of Montana.

Trevyn Gradney, Hoops, Billings 1st #37 who handed # 37 over to Clay Oven, Billings second # 37, not to mention the late, great Pat Norwood, his buddy Pat Curry--now retired, Billings PD, and The Scrap Man, Kirk Scrafford, Tim Hauck's teammate that made a pretty good living playing in the NFL for almost 10 years for Cincinnati and the 49'ers.

And all from Billings + Gabe Silser and Junior Bergen from Montana's biggest city as well plus Cade Boyd and now add William Snell and Merek Fusher from Skyview, and when you mention him, the whole Lebsock clan from Skyview as well.

I am obviously biased, but I would say Billings has been pretty good to us. Da GRIZ !!!

Another portal thing is that the majority of kids have agents in one form or another. I imagine many agents suggest the kids go into the portal to assess their earning potential. That may draw them away from their current school or maybe give them some financial leverage in dealing with their own university.

Except at UM, there is no leverage once you go to the Portal. You can't come back.

Like I said. Its a whole new world. Loyalty is so pre-transfer portal. Other pro leagues have players explore free agency and then some return to their team. I believe today's college player isn't going to fault a teammate for looking at options.

I think this should be reconsidered. It's a whole new world. Why burn a bridge with a player just because they explore their marketability? Give them two weeks to decide.
The player is the one burning the bridge. Perhaps as things evolve, this will change. For the big guys, some come to the coaches before going the Portal with what they are being offered. If the coaches say No, then the players is Ito the portal. The Griz can't match with big schools are paying.

Again, my view is that the Portal/NIL has not created more starting slots. If you want money to sit on the bench, go for it. If you want to play, come to UM or somewhere you can play. It takes more work to get to this result. More recruiting, discussion and evaluation. Some players are going to think they are better than they are. Go for it. But guys on FBS teams who aren't starting now, should be looking to go to FCS schools or where they can play. Unless they want to sit on the bench for $100,000.

I think I feel bad for the guys who depart, inlcuding from UM, who doh't play at all or much at their new FBS school. Perhaps they will learn from their bad decisions. Perhaps they will keep making bad decisions their whole life.
