The Jordan Johnson Show

1) Enough about "being under center" you all act like he aint never done it in his life, he plenty comfortable
2) Do you realize that our four most talented receivers (Henderson, Wolcott, Saylor & Jones) did not have a catch? VERY concerned about secondary still
3) Defense was playing a very base set coaches are still tweaking how to utilize the skills of the guys we have. Do you all realize how much talent is on the defensive side of the football?

Solid team health + good coaching decisions = 9 or 10 win season.
It was the first scrimmage of the fall. Thats all it was. Work to get done still.

Go Griz

One of the things I really like in what I'm seeing with Jordy this year is that he really does make the receivers better. Last night he was without Henderson, Walcott, Saylor, and Pierson. Regardless of that he still goes 8 for 10 and throws a pair of TDs.

1.)Do you realize that when we are talking about "being under center" we are talking about him not being in shotgun formation? Which is new to him...
2) Kinda tough to catch the ball when they didnt even participate in the scrimmage
3) Duh

This under center thing.... Is that the offense he played for his dad and won the state championship with, that some are so concerned he has no experience with???

I could have swore i heard Coach D talking about that he's always operated in shotgun formation until changing it up this year. I could be wrong though..

No. His HS team ran the same offense (shot-gun spread) that UM ran the previous 3 years.

You are correct:

I rembered the article ( a pretty good feat0 details are next

So, is there any reason in particluar the coaching staff won't play to Jordy's strengths? I'm sure it won't be a huge deal for him to adjust, but still... :?

So NOW you want to swear by Coach D!?! Are you not one of the same people that bang on him for pickin his nose & kicking off twice in games? "Always..." that's a long time goes all the way back to pee-wee ball, pop warner, middle school etc.

Being under center is a "basic" function of the position. It always has been. Don't let the recent offensive changes in college football fool you into believing guys have not taken snaps under center in HS. That's coach talk people.

What team was he running with?

and in agree with you that Marq Rogers had some nice grabs. I know that he was playing with 3-4's but he was the only guy to get open. Ill give him that!

1st team, he is #6, also fielded all of the punts

You play to the TEAM strength.

Johnson said that he loves the new offense. That he'll be able to pass from the pocket with play-action passes, or get out on the edge on the bootleg pass/run option.

Johnson is going to lead his brothers one game futhur this time, to the National Championship.

A couple observations from last night:

1. Jordy looks amazing.. he looked so sharp-- quick reads, quick release, VERY good accuracy. In the Missoulian article this morning Delaney talked about his check downs.. said it was non existent last year. ( Due to young QB's-- but also assuming Rosenbauch didn't tolerate any checks.. just an assumption from what I've heard) But the biggest asset with Jordy (other than his talent) will be his ability to get us in the right play- ala Craig Ochs. Out "O" was that good without Wolcott, Henderson, or a few O lineman. Henderson warmed up prior to the scrimm... but didn't play and had taken shoulder pads off for scrimm. Poole ( I think) was in a walking cast..and Oiland has a banged up hammy.. .but what we saw last night is how deep our O'Line is. The back-ups (Hines bro's, and Schmaing) can play. Oline is in good shape.
2. I think our D will be fine.. a lot of the completions (it's already been noted in this thread) were dump offs, and screens.. and trust me, if you haven't seen Travon Van yet.. you'll like what you see. That guy is flat out a different type of athlete than we've ever seen at running back. We've had great backs, but this guy is FBS talent, for sure. Him and Canada look great. So did Counts.
3. Kicking Game..... Brutal. It's an open competion. It appears Lider has not separated himself... and even last night Worst (true Frosh out of ID) was kicking with #1 kicking team. But none of them looked good. I think Lider is the best.. most live leg.. but his accuracy was terrible bad last night. Worst has got talent it appears, but he's still a true Frosh. He kicked off a tee last year in HS, so he'll have some growing pains. does appear to have some pop off the foot though.
4. I am concerned that our secondary hasn't got it figured out.. Hermy is not starting... he ran with the #2's consistantly ... interesting. I did like what I saw out of Dellasarra (Butte)... I think he'll get some time.

That's all, overall an awesome evening. Great seeing JJ, and the crowds reaction.

GO GRIZ

Jake Dallaserra had a great HS career (SS, WR), won a couple state championships in wrestling. I like that he had a ton of receptions, makes me think he'll play the play ball well (like a reciever) while playing defense for the Griz. The Griz safeties sorely missed that ball-hawking trait in 2012.

I will bite the bullet and ask a question that many of you will bash me for, but here goes.

Is there really a difference if a qb is lined up under center or in the shotgun when it comes to the running game? Doesn't the running back start in the same spot? It seems to me that if a QB is in the shotgun he gets the ball to the RB quicker giving the RB more time to see the field. Am I wrong?

Except for that old Bobby Ball in the red zone where from under center the QB drops back 7 steps and hands the ball to a stationary RB resultimg in a routine two yard loss. I do not miss that damn play at all.

The only coach i have given a hard time is Gregorak... That's it but come to think about it last year was his first year as DC so I should probably lay off of him.
